Order of the Stick - Book 5 Discussion Thread

I remember when that strip came out someone pointed out the odd expression “dwindling day” which could be a subtle suggestion that Nale thought Tarquin only had less than a day to live. I can’t remember, are we still on the same day?

Windy Canyon is two days journey away. So, no.

No, Vaarsuvius was in the Semi-Elemental Plane of Ranch Dressing for two days. And V said it would take them another day to travel to the Windy Canyon.

I think he was being poetic. He means he thinks Tarquin’s time is past

As long as we’re waiting, anyone have any theories about what Elan’s Super Top Secret Plan is? (Mentioned in 836 and 837.)

Also while we’re waiting, is it just me, or does Haley’s Paranoia have a slight resemblance to Girard Draketooth?

After mentioning that he’d sure like to make Tarquin seem not-so-badass – and had a lot of trouble figuring out how to deal with Nale – the last thing Elan mentions before that epiphany is his mother the barmaid, who Durkon could maybe magic in to make a dramatic appearance.

Up until the Draketooth massacre, I was predicting that Haley and Girard were related.

Even Haley has acknowledged this and compared Girard to her father.

A possibility. The other possible clue is that Roy was talking about finding a new family when Elan had his idea.

The other clue is that Durkon apparently agreed to carry out whatever it was that Elan wanted (although he looks confused by the request). So that puts something of a limit on how obviously crazy it could be.

What I meant was maybe it was a hint, from before we knew Girard was crazy-paranoid.

Just got an email from ookdook that my stuff has been shipped! Yeah, me! Rich is slowly but surely getting things done. Be strong, those of you who are still waiting.

Me too!

I had completely forgotten where it was being shipped from and the e-mail didn’t give me any hints as to what it was. I was halfway through a conversation with my wife trying to figure out what we had ordered before I went “oh! Never mind!”

I got my books on Saturday. All the color books, plus the coloring book and stickers.

I got most of my package a week or so ago. The art print inexplicably wasn’t there, but Rich says the warehouse will ship me another one. Apparently, it’s not as simple as, “Hey! Backer #8546 needs an art print! All right, let’s mail it out as soon as possible,” because it’s still not here.

My brother is getting his in a few days.

I had forgotten how funny some of the older stuff is…

“I think the dress looks hot.”
“No one asked you, Haley’s latent bisexuality.”
“Fine. I’ll just go back to hiding in the corner.”

New comic.

Holy…
Note the effects:
The succubus is probably clicking her ruby slippers together.
Everyone is probably deafened, which is gonna give them lower init checks in the fight that’s about to happen, and make the spellcasters have a 20% failure chance. (Failure chances suck, and have a psychological disadvantage, as people will probably try to do things that have no failure chance rather than risk it; this may lead to suboptimal tactics).
And then there’s blinded and paralyzed. Probably a bunch of folks will be blinded. I don’t know if paralyzation is in the works for anyone, but I guess we’ll find out.
And the mummies are almost certainly gone.

…Smoked.

Is Durkon walking through a wall in panels 5-6? Or using some other teleportation mechanism? Or shrugging off a camouflage spell? Or…?
