Order of the Stick - Book 5 Discussion Thread

I was using the generic rather than the specific. My apologies.

It took me a minute to realize the right side of the TV wasn’t shattered, but that I was looking at the column.

Not everyone. Just this guy.

It makes me stabby to refer (not you, general comment) to refer to V as a “he”. I know said individual is andro, but still…

Anyway, clear to me that they will brainwash him/her into doing their will.

Maybe not brainwash, but try to trick. They are torturing him/her by

forcing him/her to watch reality TV!

Yes, that little guy was the inspiration for my usage. I even ‘heard’ his voice when I posted it. Persistent trope, isn’t it? He first showed up in 1948! Wow, he’s even older than I am!

I don’t think the fiends have to brainwash V. S/he could explain to the team what happened, but that would require getting into some backstory that s/he’d probably rather keep quiet about. All the fiends need to do is point this out and V will be shamed into silence.

I’m getting a wee bit tired of V being bottled up, and now s/he’s rebottled by the IIFC. C’mon, Giant, it’s been 50+ strips, do we really need 50 more of this?

Wizards are overpowered, donchaknow? A good DM’s gotta take care of them somehow. =p

New one.

Roy should know that Belkar has Belkars safety firmly at the front of his mind. So if he has an idea to stay alive, it’s probably worth trying.

It sure was nice of Burlew to have the fiends say that they would protect V’s body. Otherwise, I’m sure, everyone would be speculating about what would happen to it.

Well, he could still have a plan that involves sacrificing the rest of the team to save himself and Mr. Scruffy. I don’t think that’s the case, given the character development we’ve seen for Belkar recently, but I’m sure it crossed Roy’s mind.

Hmm, they seem to be in the same room as in seen #882, which I guess is the same room they got vitriolic-sphered in some time ago. The exterior of the pyramid is right at hand. Belkar isn’t running up the visible stairs to the mess hall full of dessicated corpses, so what’s he running toward? I’m thinking magic carpet.

I just noticed that the grey thing they’re traipsing over in panel 8 is the steel door trap that diverted Malack a while back, apparently shook loose of its moorings.

They still are on the OOTS forum. After all, the fiends only promised to protect V’s body while his soul is with them; what happens when the protection ends and V is under thousands of tons of broken rock?

V will be useless* to the other two* if V’s body is crushed, though. I doubt they’d make a bargain where only one of them benefits.

Presumably the other two fiends will still want their time with V as well.

Certainly; so the question is what do they plan to do about it?

He’ll just have to Disintegrate his way out.

V will pull a Mr. Stiffly and be blown clear while in stasis. Possibly right into Tarquin’s forces/The LG.
