And Durkon’s actions (or at least, attempted actions) in this update are all at least consistent with a good alignment, but they’re also consistent with an evil alignment. He’s attacking his enemies, helping his friends, and trying to save the place where he keeps all of his stuff. All of that is something that a character of any alignment might do. And in fact, it’s all things that Belkar does, and has done since even before his hallucinatory spirit quest.
Let’s wait a bit to see some more definitive actions, before we try to settle on his alignment.
So on top of his other failures so far, Nale has managed to get the party wizard killed and gave the OotS a vampire cleric who is probably more powerful (if less versed in the ins-and-outs) than Malack was. Go Nale!
Indeed. If I were the type to gloat, I’d point out that I’d called his death.
I wonder if Nale will try to have Z rezzed. Of course, he’d need a cleric to do that. Plus if he can’t bring the body with him he’d need to cast true resurrection, which is pricey and requires a pretty high-level cleric. Z may be gone permanently.
I really, really want to know what the lobster demon creature was saying as went back to its own plane. I’m guessing it was along the lines of “Screw this! I am SO not getting paid enough to cope with getting bonked in the head by dead drows!” Only, you know, funnier.
Also, yay, Durkon is back! I suppose the staff gives him protection from sunlight even after the casting that Malack did on him wears off (after a day?), so I’m thinking he’ll keep a death grip on it from here on in. I am a bit concerned that he might end up getting staked by it at some point, but we’ve surely got lots of story between now and then.
No idea if legit, but per this post at the OOTS forums, the font is Miskatonic, and it translates to, “If the boss is dead, I’m punching out early.”
Called Z’s death (along with a lot of the rest of you) and Nale exiting stage right. Now to see if Haley or someone else croaks, and if Tarquin got the band back together…
I’m guessing that Durkula has a newly enhanced sadistic streak as well as bloodlust, both in the literal and figurative senses. He may also feel less pleasure from helping others and may be less inclined to do so.
We know evil creatures can feel love (Hilgya, Sabine, Nale) as well as friendship (Malack). So there should be scope for a modest or even a more than modest amount of loyalty.
How is blood addiction handled in D&D? What are the consequences when a vampire doesn’t drink regular meals? We may also see how a proper paladin like O’Chul handles Durkula, who truly is a problematic PC.
The really interesting thing is that, unless Thog somehow survived being crushed by a ceiling or Tarquin is somehow OK with Nale killing Malack, the Linear Guild is essentially over. It’s just Nale and Sabine from here on out.
