Order of the Stick - Book 6 Discussion Thread

People, people! You’re fighting Vampires. TAKE BOTH CLERICS.

Well, they might yet. But it’s implied that Minrah is out of her league here, so we’ll see.

Minrah knew right from the start that she was out of her league, and still opted to come along, not because she was the best cleric available, but because she wanted to fight evil. I don’t see that that’s changed now that Hilgya is on the scene.

As an aside, fighting vampires is literally the purpose for which the D&D cleric class was originally created.

EDIT: Oh, and we don’t actually know that Minrah is out of her league, anyway. We have circumstantial evidence that she’s no higher than a 5th or 6th level cleric (because her best vampire-fighting spells are Glyph of Warding and Searing Light, both 3rd-level spells), but she was also a guard before that, and had enough levels that she considered that experience worth mentioning.

I’m going to guess that Minrah is going to take Tykon[sup]1[/sup] back to the temple to keep him out of harms way.
[sup]1[/sup] Or Durkson. Whatever his name. I like Tykon, though.

Plus the whole “Well, the world is going to literally end if Durkon isn’t stopped so you might as well come along and possibly die in the process rather than staying ‘safe’ while creation is unmade” aspect.

Heh, I’ve been calling him “Tykon”, too.

Nah. Nale is too pale.

She did bap at least one baby vampire to death in the melee (lower left panel before the break). So I guess she has a magic hammer and the ability to swing it well.

Someone on the other board came up with Durkspawn. Ugh! That’s a name only Durkula would love.

I’ve just been calling him “Baby Thundershield”. But I’m sure we’ll get a name for him soon.

If normal Norse naming conventions hold, he’ll be Durkonson.

But neither “Thundershield” nor “Firehelm” is a patronymic, so normal Norse naming conventions apparently do not hold.

Obviously, it’s -shield for a boy and -helm for a girl. They just happened to have fathers named Thunder and Fire, respectively

True, that.

Staying safe isn’t a dwarf thing. Those who stay safe go to Hel when they die. Minrah will stay in the fight, out of her league or not. She might die, and go straight to the honoured afterlife. And to a dwarf, this is preferable to a safe life.

Could be. The temple is just a short ways down the corridor they’re on; they will likely leave him there whether Minrah stays with him or not. From what I gather, Burlew will not be keen on exposing a young kid to the danger of battle, especially one with undead.

They might take the kid to the temple, but there are already two clerics and a brewmaster there, who can look after him. No need for Minrah to stay, too.

I assume that the kid and Durkula have to encounter each other at some point, if only to show the undead one’s disgust.

Semi-obvious prediction: the kid will prove to be pivotal (moreso than Hilgya) in Durkon winning his inner struggle over Durkula. Loki’s tricky enough to know that too, perhaps.
