Afterthought… maybe it isn’t coincidence. Maybe the rifts actually sought out the Scribbles, and appeared near their homes. There’s a large backstory here that we haven’t heard yet.
That was my suggestion, BTW. Glad you liked it.
(eta - whoa, 12,000 posts)
Soon’s and Lirian’s Gates, maybe. But Girard’s Gate was out in the desert, Dorukon’s Gate was way up in the hills (possibly underground) and Kraagor’s Gate is near the North Pole. I suppose it’s possible that Girard nor Dorukon lived near those rifts before they built their structures around the gates, but no one lives near the North Pole.[sup]1[/sup] Also, if this were the case, there’d be a sixth rift in the Shire for Serini.
[sup]1[/sup] Fairly sure Santa is not a D&D monster…
ETA: forgot about Oonga and her tribe. I guess I’m wrong about no one living near the pole.
Oh yeah, the whole StupidWorld drama had me keeping my fingers crossed for Rob and Linda, and the latest turn of events has me both gobsmacked and happy. I’m just along for the ride as far as the story goes; the forum discussions got a little too technical for me. But I’m still checking in on Tuesdays and Fridays to see if anything’s up.
(And I still think that mystery Carny was the Finn.)
Hairsplitting. The assistant was not relaying messages between Thor and Durkon, telling each what the other said. Durkon was speaking directly to Thor. Though admittedly not face-to-face, which up until the current strip was indeed the sole honor of the hobgoblin leader of Azure City.
Also, how in the hell do you use MultiQuote?!
Click the “MultiQuote” button for each post you want to include (in the order you want to include them) - they should highlight to show they have been selected - and then click the main Reply button at the bottom of the page. All the selected posts should appear.
Or pray to Clippy, demigod in charge of Writing Things on Your Computer.
I don’t think it’s coincidence that Soon’s rift was in Azure City, either. Consider: We know that narrative causality is a thing in Stickworld. All the more so for the Snarl, which is literally made out of story threads. And so the Rifts appeared in five different sorts of terrain type, because that’s what makes for a more dramatic story. If you want the five most common terrain types for adventures, it’s hard to beat forest, mountains, city, desert, and tundra (and the fact that city isn’t a natural terrain type is completely irrelevant).
Nonsense. The five most common terrain types for adventurers are abandoned mines, abandoned sewers, abandoned crypts, abandoned castles and taverns. ![]()
I believe Redcloak would not appreciate being mistaken for a Hobgoblin, being rather proud of his Goblin heritage. Nor do I recall his Lieutenant being of the orange variety.
He means Jirix, who has been left in charge of the city after Redcloak departed.
Why does that penultimate panel remind me of “Luckily, Thor understands these things”?
Oh, and when he shrinks down and simplifies, his artwork literally simplifies.
A bit annoying, though, that the strip after “Seriously, dude, we need to talk” doesn’t include The Talk.
The best thing to ever happen to Minrah was dying.
Sure, not that sad in context, but still… aw!
Of course I’m now speculating that Minrah is gay. “Cool with me. You do you, kid.”
Eh, I think it’s pretty clear that she has a crush on Thor himself. Dreams written in glitter ink, and all.
Plausible, I say. MitD could be a child, errant pseuodpod, or creation of the snarl. Or even a family friend.
Not necessary to the story though. Except for the mystery of the running gag where MitD doesn’t recognize any of the gates. The fact that MitD has a hazy recollection of the Astral Plane only implies to me that his parents were familiar with the same.
That’s basically why I trust the summary on top of their thread. Hive mind. If I’m wrong, methinks it has some epistemological significance. Or I have some bad assumptions regarding what Rich said.
That was my take on it. Thor’s easy going about stuff like that.
And it WOULD be very affirming to have your god give you the thumbs up.
I don’t think so, I don’t think gayness has the kind of real slife stigma in the Stickverse, and just knowing the real Durkon for this short period Minrah has got to realise he’s an easygoing guy even if there was such a stigma, I just don’t see homosexuality as a thing Thor would need to be circumspect about around Durkon.
That panel’s a total Chekhov’s Gun. We’ll find out what it is by the end of the story arc, I’m thinking.
