I don’t understand the objection, satogata. Belkar activates the PfE effect, and it lasts 1 minute or whatever. During that time, Durkula can dominate him all he likes, but he can’t give any commands. That’s plenty of time for Belkar to gank him, at which point the protection isn’t needed any more.
All of this stuff is a red herring and Rich is messing with us.* The clasp will be heard of again when it does nothing useful for Belkar, and it turns out to be the punchline of a joke.
*Except the part where Belkar just had an uncharacteristic attack of conscience. That was real, but we don’t know what it means. Just like always.
**Well, it also means Belkar didn’t get Gnome tail, but he and we (and she) all knew that.
V is an Evoker, which is often recognized as one of the worst ways to play a wizard.
I will go on record as being very poor at guessing where Burlew is going with the story, and having deep respect for Burlew’s storytelling abilities with regards to the difference between being Evil (or Good) and being kind of a dick. I look forward to seeing how Belkar’s story plays out.
That said, I think the trope would be that if Belkar is trying to screw over Durkon out of hatred that amulet is going to hurt. At some point, though, Belkar is going to do something in order to protect his team mates–and the amulet is not going to hurt him. It is unlikely Belkar survives whatever it is, though. I admit that all of that might be way to cliche for Burlew.
If the resolution of the Belkar storyline is that he moves from Chaotic Evil to Lawful Evil, I am going to be very surprised.
Yabut, I’d argue that a Tracker who decides to put no points into survival is probably beats out the rest of the party in non-optimal play.
What does it mean to be an evoker and why is that worse than other wizard builds?
An evoker is typically a wizard who uses straightforward ranged energy blasting-type spells to directly deal damage to targets. In high-optimization play, it is seen as more effective for a wizard to specialize in types of magic which make the entire battle irrelevant. Teleporting past the enemy army, summoning an army to fight them for you, turning your allies into giant indestructible monsters, or just mind-controlling the enemy army into being your friends are usually seen as more effective tactics than just blasting them with lightning bolts or whatever.
Dun dun DUN!
The plot, it thickens!
I like the visual effect with the starry eyes and the wands all in a row.
If that is Bozzok, as many on the forum seem to believe, that almost has to mean that by rule of drama, Crystal’s been resurrected, right?
Why couldn’t it be Thog? We never saw the body, which means he 100% has to be alive.
ETA: or someone rez’d Therkla, and she’s out to eliminate Haley and claim Elan once and for all.
Thog’s not the type to lurk around unseen.
But IMO Bozzok seems more the type to send minions, not show up personally.
Except that Nale is dead and Thog doesn’t have the brains to follow the Order this distance unseen. Also, he likes Elan, so I don’t see him having that scowl on his face when he sees him, not to mention that while he’s certainly more than capable of murder and violence, he’s generally cheerful in between. I suppose Sabine could have rescued him and brought him along; is her 24 hours of banishment over yet? I’ve completely lost track of elapsed time in the comic.
I just don’t see Therkla scowling like that even if she were somehow alive again (and who would resurrect her? The only one who even knew about her and is still around is the imp, and what purpose could there be to his bringing her back?). She loved Elan and wanted him to love her back; there was never any sign that she thought that he would do so if she just eliminated her competition.
I think Bozzok is the strongest possibility, just based on those eyes, the skin color, and the personality that the scowl implies, and if Bozzok is around, I agree that Crystal has to be right there, too, chafing at her short leash and ready to jump out at Haley.
Long since.
Nothing good. ![]()
Oh, no love for the sly joke in the 6th panel?
