I wonder if it’s supposed to be symbolic that Haley has “returned” Crystals knife to her. A kind of getting rid of the albatross thing.
Doesn’t look like there’ll be enough left for a traditional Raise Dead.
A fitting end to a villian.
The real question is what will become of Crystal (and her rivalry with Haley) once she calms down from her rampage.
I had the impression that Crystal’s knife was pretty heavily enchanted. Is there an in-game justification for it, and the sword, shattering like that? Even if the sword is also enchanted (reasonable, given its owner) do two heavily enchanted items commonly break like that?
Or people, often as not.
That was extremely satisfying. I’m glad the latest updates have been pretty thick, to make up for their low frequency.
I think Bozzok learned an Important Lesson : don’t demean the crazy murdergolem right to its face.
No, not really. In fact in D&D weapon (or shield, or item) breakage is mostly ignored except in the case of arrows where there are token rules that determine how many you can pick back up after a fight.
The only common scenario in which an item’s structural integrity comes into play is the Sunder combat manoeuver, by which a melee fighter deliberately attacks their opponent’s weapon/shield/armor/etc… instead of their HP ; but in that particular case you either fail (in which case nothing happens whatsoever and you’ve just used up your turn for nothing) or you succeed (in which case their shit breaks and yours is unaffected). Magic items being harder to bust up than common ones.
Oh, and I guess there are spells that might cause item breakage as a fringe effect, like a sonic boom having a chance to shatter potion vials and things of that sort.
TL;DR : mutual weapon breakage is not a rules thing.
Not unless they’ve got a spatula.
Like it would make any difference if there was. Who in the Thieves Guild would be motivated to bring him back?
I am curious to know if Roy’s starmetal sword would be able to Great Cleave Crystal out of her misery. Does Haley have a Wand of Sending in her collection to give him a call?
Hmm, Punched through the heart, checking my notes here… and… yep, that’s gotta hurt.
Roy’s sword is +5 (stated in canon, with the smith having tried some talk-around until Roy assured him that he was happy talking the raw numbers) so even if it doesn’t count as adamantine Roy will still be able to do plenty of damage to it; the sword’s bonus exactly offsets the DR and Roy still gets plenty of bonus damage otherwise.
No, odds are good it stopped hurting pretty damn soon.
So the current faction score card as it seems to me.
Order of the stick: In to the End obviously
Out of action
Linear guild: Dead and gone
Greysky thieves: Terminal
Sapphire guard: Done in the story.
Hobgoblin army: Done in the story.
Tarquin and friends: Done in the story.
Still strong:
Xykon
Redcloak/Dark one
IFCC
Wild cards
MITD
Hel/Vampire Durkon
May still show:
Serini’s gate guards of some sort.
Dwarfs.
Am I missing or forgetting anything?
P.S. Quite sadly typing it out right there was the first time I realized that it is Grey-Sky City. I had been mentally pronouncing it as Grey-Ski City.:smack:
I think the elves are still a factor. The team that got sent to Azure City shows they have an interest in events. And while that team was killed, the Elvish Kingdoms still exist.
There’s also been hints that there is a secret group (the Holey Brotherhood) that is defending the Gates.
My daughter points out that Redcloak has a daughter who has not been accounted for.
A nitpick but that’s not necessarily the case. Serini may still be alive, and two are soul-bound in Xykon’s gem. If an enterprising thief were to steal said gem, the latter could be raised (I know Rich’s aversion to True Resurrection) or come back as undead. Or at least talked-to.
The Sapphire Guard isn’t out of the story entirely: Hinjo’s still in communication with the Order, and is calling in all the favors he has and then some to help them as much as possible. It’s probably not much, but Team Save-the-World needs all the help they can get.
And under “Wild Cards”, add the Snarl and Laurin, who’s apparently under its thrall in some way.
EDIT: Oh, and Redcloak doesn’t have a daughter (unless that one blind date went a lot better than the book indicated), but he does have a niece.
Wasn’t the Linear Guild Nale & Co?
Sabine is still around but I suppose she’s IFCC these days. Plus her major beef is with Tarquin who is sitting this last Gate out.
Yeah. Lirien and Soon and all of those were the Order of the Scribble.
