And his good twin Etan

:stuck_out_tongue: pblpblp!

“You couldn’t have made the portal open closer to the ground?”

“Of course I could have.”

I feel the Giant missed a trick.

The five prisoners should have been: a soldier, a clown, a ballerina, a tramp and a Scotsman.

I understood that reference but sometimes simpler is better.

I think this strip illustrates the fatal flaw with the Directors’ master plan. They can’t reform the Multiverse so that evil gets rewarded and good gets punished. The reason why the Lower Planes are torture is precisely because they’re full of evil people, and the the Upper Planes are paradisical because they’re full of good people. Put all the good people in a place like the Abyss, and they will help each other out of the holes, and find ways to keep others from falling in, and so on. And put all the evil people in a place like Celestia, and they’ll fight on the mountainside.

If, that is, that actually is the Directors’ master plan. I think it far more likely that they’re just plain lying. Oh, they probably do want to overthrow the gods, but about the rest of it.

So Nale’s going to be turned into a Pit Fiend or something?

A short-term Pit Fiend, or “pit-stop fiend”, if you will.

Huh about 10 days between strips this month, Burlew’s best pace in quite a number of years actually.

Yeah, i was shocked to see a new one today.

So Nale will be a buffed Lesser Demon. Honestly, that’s a plausible step: there’s no reason why eg a 200hp spined devil should be automatically disallowed, at least for main characters. Maybe there should be a burst of light when they lose hp or something to signal their greater stature.

I see that torture and suffering in hell fulfills an important role in the wider economy of the gods. I recall a similar world system in the early issues of the comic book Spawn.

“Should I assume they’re going to monologue about what that does?”

“Pretty safe bet, yeah.”

Pure gold.

So the gods get their nourishment if you’re good and they get nourishment out of your torture if you’re bad. Yup. The gods don’t come off as good guys under this system.

I’m assuming the tortured soul energy is only consumed by the evil gods.

That would make sense.

Is that a sword in the fountain in panel 4?

It does resemble one, but the part on the right looks like a hook rather than a normal hilt.

I think that’s the effect of the water rippling.

Don’t think so. I expanded the image and it’s definitely not part of the ripple.

I just assumed it was a weird crinkly hilt because it’s an evil sword in an evil fountain.

No sign yet of a evil lady turning up to lob it at Nale.
