Rich has just released a new q&a. I get it in email, but i assume it’s posted somewhere public, too
Here’s a link
Thanks for the link, @Peter_Morris ! A good read!
I may adopt “Anyone can plan years in advance if it takes you years to finish it!” as my new motto.
Not a lot of plot advancement, but a fun strip.
And has anyone else noticed the disturbing proliferation of stray threads of reality?
That was oddly inspiring.
As a childless former teacher, I agree.
Mushrooms Unite!
Great strip.
Separately, over a Patreon Rich makes an observation that resonates with me:
I just don’t enjoy the modern corporate franchise model of storytelling, where existing settings need to be exploited endlessly for stories that don’t mean a whole lot.
There are 5 or 6 components of storytelling; they are conflict, setting, theme, character, plot, and maybe tone. Works emphasize a subset of the preceding; inevitable tradeoffs mean that some are de-emphasized. Hollywood leans a lot on conflict. That they reuse settings so much reflects the fact that they don’t care too much about it. Character receives a moderate weight, which in no way implies that the characters are reliably interesting. Indeed, many aren’t especially credible. At any rate, there’s no getting around the most important over-arching component, the talent of the creators.
My tastes run towards theme. That’s problematic, as are all tastes.

That’s been going on for quiet a while now, hasn’t it?
Yes, i have bio-kids, but i care a lot more about my legacy in the sense that O’Chul does than i do about whether my gene line continues.
Yes, but it seems to be accelerating.
