Oh, he’ll listen, since it’s going to be important he knows about Thor’s plan. But since the Dark One has other plans for the Snarl, he’ll reject Durkon’s proposal outright. He may eventually change his mind about it, but not for a good many strips.
Anyone have an idea where Minrah is? We never see her on the ledge. She was ahead of Durkon when they were coming in for landing, so it’s unlikely she saw him leave and then followed. But it’s not impossible, so she may be still windwalking near where Durkon is now. Or landed in that area.
I’d say that the very fact this thread has resurfaced after an extended pause is enough warning. Go to GitP, check current newest comic, then read the thread. If new comics come on a rapid-fire basis due to Burlew’s inherent comic update unpredictability then start spoilering but I’d say a thread bump after an extended gap is more than enough warning and no spoiler boxes are needed.
Exactly. When I see someone has bumped this thread, I immediately open a new tab and bring up the latest strip. The only problem with that is that lately (the last three or so strips), Burlew doesn’t update where the ootslatest shortcut goes to. Nor does he update the buttons that should take you to the next strip and the last strip. At least not immeditaely, he eventually gets around to it. But that’s easily gotten around by adding one to the url that it does take me to.
I agree. But hey, if someone wants to spoiler the initial response, that’s fine by me. Assuming it’s an actual spoiler (“I can’t believe Xykon was a paladin all this time!”) and not “Haha, that Belkar is at it again!”
I wonder if we’ll see all of Durkon’s and RC’s conversation or if it just shows Durkon coming back saying, “We sorted it out” and we have no clue what is going to happen.
I think the framing of the panel (having Durkon right next to the vandalized statue) is a way of reminding us that Redcloak doesn’t need any particular excuse to hate a random person he doesn’t know. His default assumption is that everyone who isn’t a goblinoid is an enemy.
Roy: One of the only advantages—possibly the one single advantage - we possess is the element of surprise. They don’t know we’re coming. If you call him up and let him know we want to talk, we lose that.
Durkon: But lad, Thor asked me ta—
Roy: And you will. We’re going to talk to him. But not until after we’ve stopped the immediate threat. So please, do not use your last Sending spell to contact him.
Durkon: Aye, lad. Wha’ev’r ye think’s best.
So, basically, Durkon agreed to three things:
Not to ruin the element of surprise
Talk to Redcloak later.
Don’t use the sending spell.
Durkon has only really kept to the letter of one of those.
Aside, the site issues here are just about getting intolerable.
I don’t post that much anymore, and I don’t know how more prolific posters are able to put up with the problems. Guess they’re more patient than I am.
Now that I think of it, on Alessan’s point that Minrah is Durkon’s ace in the hole for getting out of this situation, how could she help? When faced with someone as powerful as RedCloak, and surrounded by a hostile village? Clerics don’t get spells like Shadow Door or Dimension Door—never mind Teleport—do they?
If Durkon cast Refuge (with the second option), then all he’d need for an extraction plan is a willing accomplice, of any level. Basically, he casts a spell on an object, hands it to her, and any time thereafter, she can break it to teleport him to her.
Neat. Thanks for the info. Still a 7th level spell, which is pretty stout to allocate on something like this, but at least he’s got a way out now. Works better if Minrah’s near the party instead of likely tagging along near him though.
