We know the Order are in the original tunnel, because they disabled the teleport trap. Without it, there is no way for them to be moved anywhere else.
Okay, going back a couple of strips I see that Haley supposedly turned off the teleport line long enough for the group to cross it without triggering it. That would explain why Roy assumes they are in the original tunnel.
In my defense, while it was only three strips ago, it was released back in November.
eta: What blue_infinity said.
I suppose it’s conceivable that there’s a second trap, so cunning that even a rogue of Haley’s level wasn’t able to detect it… but down that line of reasoning, madness lies. And besides, if you can make traps that good, why not make all of them that good?
It’s also possible that any given teleporter-trap doesn’t always lead to the same destination, but that seems unlikely as well, as it would make it easier for invaders to figure out that something is up (and once they figure that out, they’re more likely to figure out what, and how to circumvent it).
I liked the way the Order first argued about genre issues in the first panel, before moving on to the secondary logic puzzle. Even Roy got involved.
We also know the Order are in the original tunnel, because the color of their floor matches the color the tunnel was when they first opened the door.
The color of the first few feet of tunnel didn’t change until Haley disabled the trap with the rat head.

The colors of the floors didn’t change at all. What happened was that the floor they were looking at changed. And the floor of the section between the door and the trap didn’t change at all as far as I can tell.
Huh. You’re right. I could have sworn I looked back and checked and Roy was talking about the color between the door and the trap. But it’s the floor beyond the trap that changed color.
It must be that the first few feet are colored different from the rest of the tunnel…

Floors are consistent between trap-connected areas, so as not to give away the trap (and also probably because dust or monster droppings or whatever are affected by the traps, too). They’re not necessarily consistent between physically-connected areas.
So, when the trap is disarmed, the OOTS cross into a place with a different floor. This leads me to believe that I’m right in that the nature of the “trap” is that it lets you continue uninterrupted if you don’t know it’s there whereas “disarming” it cause you to teleport to a different place when you cross the line.
So you’re saying that everywhere Team Evil has gone has been in real tunnels right next to each other? Then we’re right back to the question of how so many dungeons fit into that space.
Then why does it make a sound when people go through it undisarmed and doesn’t when it is disarmed? You’d think that letting people go straight through would not require any magic that makes a sound.
The floor between the trap and the door being different can have one of two explanations: 1) dust from the 2nd tunnel filters through the trap and covers the original floor or 2) someone noticed the floor differences after they made the trap and brought a small amount of rock dust from the other tunnel to cover it. Personally, I’d say #2 is the most likely.
I assume Team Evil experiences hallways of various lengths before they get to the main dungeon behind each and every door. Otherwise, the illusion makes no sense. That’s some pretty elaborate permanent magic, unless there’s a space warping spell like Invoke Tardis. [1] My disbelief is losing a little air.
Then again, maybe there are a few anomalies in the setup, Xykon notices them, but doesn’t care. Because dungeons are refreshing and fun! But where do they get all those mid/high level monsters?
[1] It’s bigger on the inside than it is on the outside.
Technically, they aren’t hanging. They’re standing in restraints.
Just sayin’.
O-Chul seems to have a “Not this shit again” look on his face.
Whoa. A new strip just five days later? I thought Christmas was LAST month.
So, is that fog in the room with the paladins? Or… tendrils? Like, threads of Reality?
Dun, dun, dun.
The Snarl’s tendrils are a different colour. And I would assume an intact Gate would prevent anything coming through.
On another note, if you catch some guys breaking into Fort Knox, you probably don’t confine them in the room that has all the gold in it.
Ugh. Stop metagaming and just explore the damn mysterious dungeon already.
Have you MET the Order? they will overanalyze every tiny detail and do everything possible to avoid adventuring properly until events FORCE them to do it. So just like every gaming group I’ve ever seen!
