Order of the Stick book 7 discussion thread

That’s what I think we’re both saying: MitD wouldn’t be an Indescribable Horror because too many people have casually seen him for that to be reasonable.

Is Indescribable Horror an actual thing in D&D, or something made up for the strip?

I just finished rereading all of the online strips starting with #1. I had forgotten almost all of the details about the Girard’s dungeon arc and many details from the Godsmoot bit, too.

I’m not sure either. It doesn’t feel like real snark, there’s no edge to it. It sort of feels like “reflective voice of experience” old person wisdom, but it’s hard to say if she even means to refer to Ethan and Haley - I mean, we see the relevance, but I’m not confident she’s been paying attention to their low-level bickering. It might be a joke for us but not the characters. Or maybe she’s reflecting on the trap, and E&H, and on what she’s learned over her long life across a number of areas.

Group Project

Extra long one!

Jesus - it was only “last week” Durkon died and was resurrected?

Beat me to it.

I liked this one.

At this pace Belkar will outlive all of us!

Like.

Snerk.

“Aren’t the paladins sweet? It’s their first unreliable narrator.”

In case anyone is wondering, Rich has released a strip about once every 19 days since June. :frowning: Standard deviation is ~6.5 days for those interested. Range is about 10-28 days.

Threadbare

Make sure to check all the art on this one. There’s some neat details going on.

Those of us who read Start of Darkness know that Xykon cannot taste (specifically coffee) and that this is indeed a major source of anger and frustration for him.

Has that ever been established in the main continuity?

If not I predict we will be reminded of it soon.

Let’s see… I count

1: The outer panel boundaries fade out into a mist effect at the Threads.
2: The outer panel boundaries might themselves be Threads.
3: The interior panel boundaries are all skewed
4: The interior panel boundaries are misaligned, going too far or not far enough.
5: The Threads are shifting every time we see them.
6: It’s hard to tell without animation, but there appears to be a Hitchcock zoom thing going on in the panel where Elan is about to touch them.

Also, it’s not just the rigid lawful types who’d have a hard time fitting through. Sunny would have an even harder time, and they’re full of humor. Mostly vitreous.

I feel like it’s foreshadowing of some future interaction between Elan and Haley.

Nicely done!

I also noticed that the borders firm up towards to bottom as they walk further away from the threads

“than”, dammit.

#1266, page 2, panel 5

#1282, final panel.
