No one would have expected Vaarsuvius to survive much less rescue a prisoner. So things would appear to have gone much better than expected. That opens up the possibility of success.
And Haley is unfamiliar with what had happened with Vaarsuvius. All she has had is a few minutes of seeing that Vaarsuvius had somehow vastly expanded his power and appeared confident he could defeat Xykon. For all she knows, Vaarsuvius might have somehow achieved 30th level power.
Received and finished On the Origin of PC’s! Much less disturbing read than SoD.
And as per the discussion on how the Order named themselves a few pages back- it *wasn’t *V who suggested “Handsome Hafling & Company”. It was Belkar, like you’d expect.
Also, I have two random OOTS predictions:
Prediction #1: Those thieves who stole Haley’s resurrection diamonds- we’ll hear from them again.
Prediction #2: Durkon may return home posthumously, but who’s to say he won’t get rezzed after he gets there?
There is a great gag strip there somewhere. V is all buffed up on evil power, teleports out say he is going to kill Xykon, and a couple of minutes later falls out of the sky heavily scarred and paralyzed. Panel where nobody says anything. Last panel of the page, Belkar says, “So, did you kill him?”
I have a feeling one of the gates may be in Dwarvey-land, and that a new, unimproved, rotting and slightly less… free-willed Durkon may have a hand in getting Xykon there.
All this talk about reuniting the Order got me looking back through the archive. Do you realize it’s been 324 comics since all six members were standing in the same place at the same time? That’s nearly half the run of the comic. Sheesh!
The’re all shown in #426, but they’re spread apart. #377 looks like it, but that’s Nale.
Aand, 665 is up (do I finally get to be the one to post it!?) it looks like this is a wrap, unless he’s going to make one more gag strip.
Edit: Cuuuuuuurse you Morris and your post ninjaing!
Well, he was about to lay out a plan before he got hit with the strip’s punchline. Next strip he’ll lay out his intentions, the Paladins will check in with their plans, everyone will figure out what to do, and that’ll be the end of the book on strip 666, just like folks predicted.
Roy’s been dead for 222 strips. A full one third of the story up until now. Pretty nuts.
Woohoo! He’s back! That fourth(?) panel with all of 'em onscreen together at last is a treat. Loved Elan’s line. I’m really gonna be curious to see how Roy deals with Elan’s character growth, assuming it lasts.
Is that V’s cloak covering him? LOL oh the indignity…
