Order of the Stick General Discussion Thread (Open Spoilers and Speculation)

I’d like to see another strip similar to the ending of the last book, with vignettes involving where all the major players are. Xykon watching the hobgoblins as they search for the phylactery, O-Chul getting a good night’s rest in a comfy bed, Roy and the Order marching somewhere (perhaps with each of them thinking their own very different thoughts…), and maybe even the IFCC scrying on the Order. Plus one surprise, of course … maybe the MitD or Nale or even Lord Tyrannir (sp) or some such character from left field.

Agreed – there’s still a lot of loose ends that need tying up. We need either two more comics, or one super-super-size one.

I like V in the bottom corner.

It’s lucky V’s eyes are averted, because of all of 'em, V’s got the best unobstructed view of Roy, cloak or not.

Finally!

“You’re invisible”… heh heh heh.

My guess is that we’ll have at least one “dun dun DUN” scene where we see Xykon (or maybe Nale or the three fiends) launching some villainous plan. Just to set things up for the next arc.

So will Roy remember the afterlife? It looks like he can.

More to the point, will Eugene actually haunt Roy, per instructions?

I’m sure he will. He wants the Blood Oath fulfilled so he can move on (in whatever direction). I think the exchange about haunting between Eugene and Roy wasn’t so much about foreshadowing Eugene forgetting to haunt as it was about giving the bureaucratar the opportunity to foist the report on V off on Eugene.

The italicization and capitalization clearly indicates the title of a work of art, in this case a movie.

I think you just got whooshed, Chronos.

I agree that Eugene would not forego any opportunity to nag and insult his son. But there will be an interesting new dynamic to his hauntings in the future. Assuming, as it appears, that Roy remembers the afterlife, Eugene will not longer be able to pretend he has some higher postmortem knowledge that Roy lacks. Eugene’s air of superiority will be easily punctured by the fact that Roy’s life was judged to be a better success than Eugene’s was.

Which raises another interesting point. What would happen to Roy if he now decided to abandon the effort to fight Xykon? He’s already been granted entry to the Celestial Realm based on the fact that he died once in pursuit of that goal. Is that irrevocable? Or will he be judged again the next time he dies based on whether or not he’s been worthy since his previous death?

I strongly doubt they’d let him back in if he went Belkar. I imagine they just got the paperwork out of the way so that, presuming his behavior and thus alignment remains consistent, he doesn’t have to worry about it next time. He pretty much just ran a credit check to be approved for a future car loan.

If, however, he makes some bad [del]financial[/del] moral decisions between now and then, those are going to come up as red flags and they’ll have to re-evaluate his suitability for [del]a loan[/del] heaven.

There’s also the fact that yet ANOTHER adventurer under his leadership has transversed the “beyond the pale” alignment strictures. Roy managed to inadvertently delay that conversation with the bureaucratar, but I imagine they’re keeping it in the file pending his actual final accounting.

But it wasn’t “under his leadership”. The entire thing happened while he was dead and thus fundamentally incapable of keeping V on the straight and narrow.

If it didn’t matter, the bureaucratar wouldn’t have been trying to give him the information. Besides which, Roy already knows about it (basically)…he was there in spirit while V was all evil and stuff, and knew about the “subcontractors”. He may not have known the details, but it was pretty obvious that V wasn’t acting like an elf in his right mind.

Question on 664: Is there any significance to the other limo driver’s S Rogers sign? “Highway from Heaven” I like but I miss all the subtle stuff.

Marvel has been talking about bringing back Steve Rogers, the original Captain America.

And therein lies the rub. If Roy had listened and got the full scoop he would have been able to take the right path. But since he was being greedy(i.e. Basking in his resurection) he didn’t get the info, and now V’s ‘soul’ is in Danger. Kinda like his daddy always did, me first always…

We don’t know that the bureaucratar is only concerned about the state of Roy’s alignment.
