Order of the Stick General Discussion Thread (Open Spoilers and Speculation)

Thank you kindly. I knew something was flying over my head; I could feel the air.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t “by the way, something regarding your servitude to goodness” so much as “um… one of your party members has done something COMPLETELY OFF THE WALL EVIL and we thought you may like to know about it…”

I saw it as being something like Roy’s Archon getting Roy on the elevator. The Snarl is a danger to everything, including the divine beings themselves. They were probably trying to pass information to Roy to help his mission succeed and save the universe.

The fact that Eugene places his pettiness higher than this says that he’ll probably never see the Mountain even if Roy kills Xykon.

New one is up. Nothing special for 666, O-Chul still as cool as ever

Heh. Senior management convenes.

I love how no-one has any illusions about Belkar.

And Roy has no illusions about Haley, either. Love the last panel.

A mellow strip for what seems like the end of the book. That penultimate panel is just lovely, isn’t it?

Roy’s as full of himself as usual (re: his non-thanking of Haley). I guess his personality isn’t gonna change as a result of his experience in Celestia.

A nice wrap-up with a hint of things to come. (Seven weeks?)

Was anyone else trying to figure out the significance of O-Chul eating a popsicle before realizing it was actually his right arm?

No? Just me then?

I think every DM everywhere, at one point or another, has found Captain America handy as an example when explaining the concept of Lawful Good. He’d definitely be in that particular afterlife.

No, but now that you mention it…

So, 666 is decidedly undemonic. Probably on purpose. It’ll be interesting to see exactly what Roy remembers and what he doesn’t remember.

I think Rich has an actual aversion to giving in to making his strips align with “significant” numbers. He’s mocked it, in-strip, a few times, but I suspect he deliberately adjusts things so big events don’t fall on the “significant” numbers.

Hope, apparently, springs eternal for some readers, though.

No. But… every time a stick person is making a fist I’m puzzled as to why they’re suddenly holding a billiards ball in their hand.

Hey, we’ve got a fixed deadline! Okay, admittedly in a comic where ten minutes took fifteen strips it doesn’t amount to a whole lot but Belkar has a maximum of seven weeks to live.

He’s going to be awfully pressed for time when they get over to the next continent.

Technically, Belkar has seven weeks to draw breath. If V can get a level or two in that time, then turning Belkar into something murderous and non-respiring is as simple as saying “Polymorph Any Object”.

I wouldn’t put it past him, either. That is one wizard who has probably made it his new life goal to stab the Plot in the face.

Are you sure this is the wrap-up? There doesn’t appear to be an announcement on the GitP site, and it doesn’t end with a clear wrap-up image like the other 3 end strips did.

Respiration is one of the defining characteristics of life. Even fish and bacteria “breathe”. So being changed into something that doesn’t breathe still means he only has seven weeks to live.

FWIW I do think that Belkar has, to put it Xykon’s way, the balls to stay in the game. And I suspect it won’t be as an undead monstrosity because that’s the easy way to do it. We’ll have to see what he does…

I didn’t mean that in the sense that this was the final strip of the story arc. I meant that this strip had the charcters looking back and commenting on previous events.

What exactly happens when an arc comes to an end? Is there a hiatus in new strips?

Usually just a big splash page and then on to the next.

There was about a two month gap at the end of War and XPs. I expect we’ll see something similar as Burlew works on the next book.
