Orgasm = Simultaneous Headache?

There’s this married couple who, for a lot of reasons, have abstained from sexual activity for quite some time. Today, they broke their long abstinence and it was great BUT at the exact moment the woman experienced an orgasm, she also experienced a violent headache. The headache only lasted for a couple of minutes, but it was very painful; so painful that a trip to the ER was contemplated. She decided against the ER and she does have an appointment with her doctor within the week and this will be discussed.

In the meantime, is this a very unusual thing? Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas?

I have heard about this. People posted it about it in another thread, as I recall. One of the sex/orgasm threads, maybe? I’m not sure which one it was.

I’ve never experienced it myself. It’s the opposite with me–that is, if I have a headache, masturbating will often get rid of it and refresh me a bit.

Yeah, it was mentioned in my face going numb from orgasm thread.

Never had it myself though, and hope I never do.

Sex headaches, via the Mayo Clinic.

My husband had them, and they went away on their own after a couple weeks. But she should definitely keep the doctor’s appointment to be sure there’s nothing wrong!

Thanks for the link. The information provided there is helpful; she will keep the appointment with her doctor.

Try moving further down the bed, away from the headboard

I had this problem, too. Very scary for both of us at the time. The relationship ended soon after (not because of this) but the problem recurred even when I was on my own, so to speak. Made me a little nervous, I’ll tell you! But I did some research, and it stopped happening, so I never brought it up to my doctor…until I got in another relationship. Very embarassing thing to discuss with him…I should have waited until I got a new ob-gyn, but he reassured me and said wait an see it it happens again. It didn’t, fortunately, but being prime candidate for a stroke at the time, I was very worried.

Happened to me once, too, even though there was no abstention. Intensely painful, just above my left eye - I thought I was having a brain hemmorage. In the end I concluded it was an instant migraine triggered by the event. Not sure if that was correct. Never happened again, though.

Take the spoon out next time.
No. Wait… that’s *coffee *eyepain.

Your advice still applies.

Cecil mentions it in this column

“Not tonight, dear. I don’t want to have a headache.”

(You KNEW somebody was going to say it.)

Bed? Headboard?

My brother has this problem as well, and he’s fairly young. Doesn’t seem to be any long-term health effects, at least for him.

I had this happen once, maybe twice. The one I’m sure I remember was about 20 years ago - I was 14 or 15, whacking off in the shower. At orgasm, it felt like I was stabbed in the temple with a dull screwdriver. I almost collapsed, but just sat down on the side of the bathtub and cradled my head for about 5 minutes, and it was gone.

It scared me. I probably held off masturbating for a full 8 or 9 hours after that.

Happened to a friend of mine (gay male) for a while. He went for a CAT scan but everything was fine. He was stressed out at the time, and it’s stopped on its own.

That happens whenever I’m hung over.
