Origin of Name 'Triple Sec'.

For some time now I have been perplexed by the name of the liqueur Triple Sec. As many of you may already know, Triple Sec is a sweet orange liqueur used in making Margaritas. But that is what has got me so perplexed. “Sec” might come from an Italian word meaning “dry” (i.e., not sweet). And I have no idea what could be triple (i.e., 3x) about it. It’s a single liqueur AFAIK. Someone please enlighten me. And feel free to include links, if any, that apply.

Thank you in advance to all who reply

Tripple distilled, according to that site. I assume it’s a French word, maybe related to *seco *(dry) in Spanish, but I’ll leave the translation to someone who actually speaks Frnch.

I hope you find that someone over in Which person can speak the most languages? thread.

Yes, sec means “dry” of “dried” in French; various sites say that in this phrase it means “distilled,” without going into details in the process used.
