Original Sound of Music and Mary Poppins Vinyls at Goodwill

Hey, so it’s been a few months since I’ve been here. Glad to see this old place hasn’t changed a bit.

Anyway, I thought I’d tell all of you about some neat finds I got at Goodwill around a week ago. I went there with my mom and sister, as the latter had to get some decorations and stuff for college. As she browsed around for frames and cups and whatnot, my mom and I nonchalantly looked through the stacks of vinyl records they had in stock, as they were only around 2 bucks a pop. After a while of looking through, we found an original Sound of Music album, complete with all the inserts and whatnot. Now, there was a rerelease of it that came out relatively recently, and my sister had been looking around for a copy of it for months. However, this was the original, which was way cooler than the pricier rerelease. We also found the Mary Poppins soundtrack, which wasn’t necessarily on my sister’s radar, but she loves that, too, so it was a neat find as well. Not sure if either one is considered “rare” in the record-collecting space, but nevertheless they were really neat finds for dirt cheap.

The Broadway cast recording with Mary Martin, right? That has a hilarious song on it that didn’t make it into the movie (except as a snippet of melody during a waltz) – “How Can Love Survive,” in which Max and the Baroness sing about how hard it is for the rich to find love, lacking all of the romantic trappings of poverty.
