This show comes back tonight. Can’t wait!
About time too.
Apparently Tatiana Maslany might be cast as Sarah Connor in the upcoming Terminator reboot.
I am very excited for this season (although I’m still disappointed that the last shot of last season wasn’t a pan over to reveal a clone of Felix) (although I don’t know if that actor has the chops to play multiple different characters like Tatiana).
“My sister shot me.” - Damn, Helena is all kinds of crazy bad-ass. Who cares if she can’t use silverware? I’m so glad that crazy bitch is back.
And Alison just would have an illegal pharmacologist.
Delphine impressed me by instantly figuring out Sarah’s ruse.
All in all, off to a good start. Looking forward to more.
A very entertaining season premiere… these 8 weeks when Saturday is Orphan Black and Sunday is Game of Thrones are the BEST!!!OMG!!!
One thing confused me: when Delphine and Cosima were snuggling, the set looked like Cosima’s room. But isn’t that at a college that is fairly far away (college is in Minnesota, everyone else is in Toronto?). And where is the Dyad institute supposed to be? It seemed like they were playing a little fast and loose with that.
They show too much in the teaser for next week’s episode. Luckily I’ll have forgotten it all by then.
First episode was pretty good.
I’m always kinda waiting for this show to come off the rails, but so far they’ve managed to defeat my pessimism.
I liked the touch of Sarah using a non-Orphan look-alike in this episode.
Well, they must be running out of different hair cuts for Tatiana, so if they want to keep the clone thing going, they’re going to introduce a new model at some point.
Oh, I have faith in their wigs department. After all, there is all of history to serve as source of different hair-dos. (Beehives! Shags! Pixies! Pincurls! …)
The limiting factor is probably more in the possibility of exhausting Maslany. She’s surely the hardest working woman in show business, as it is.
I’m glad that they aren’t overplaying the “one clone pretends to be another” angle. I can buy them fooling someone who doesn’t know anything about clones that way, but if it devolved into, “this person, whom I know very well and know has clones of her about, suddenly starts acting strange, but I am nevertheless totally non-suspicious until the plot calls for me to be”, I would be unimpressed.
(In my mind, Leaky knew right away, too, but just didn’t let on.)
I was kind of wondering if there were SAG regulations about paying actors on a per-character basis. I know the Simpsons cast all get the same pay, so I guess probably not.
Does seem like she should get good money, since she’s playing something like half the shows characters.
I think one of the better parts of this show is that Sarah isn’t a super-intelligent badass. Her plans regularly backfire, and even in the earlier episodes, people saw through her disguises pretty quickly.
Too many dramas rely on having a main character whose supernaturally lucky, and seems to be perfectly skilled at whatever the situation calls for.
Wasn’t there a moment when “Cosima” used a British intonation on one phrase, and Leekie did a doubletake? So, yeah. I think he knew.
…and to Simplicio: I didn’t realize that the voice actors of “The Simpsons” were paid the same amount no matter how many characters they voice. Interesting. But if there are no SAG rules about number of characters played, you’d think at least there would be rules about percentage of running time one person is on screen, or something along those lines. (Aren’t there rules that kick in for designations such as “walk-on role” versus “regular role” and the like?)
I didn’t catch that, but was thinking more of the hug being out of character. Sarah sees Cosima as overly-emotional so Sarah-playing-Cosima is a touchy-feely caricature. (Of course, she needed the hug to get the badge, but she, at least a little, imagined she could get away with it).

One subtle aspect I really liked from the way they wrapped up season one is that Sarah’s freedom up until now wasn’t because because she was a bad-ass against the conspiracy, or was particularly good at hiding, but because she was a twin and the conspirators didn’t even realize there was another clone. If they had she’d probably be another experimental subject with a monitor. I.e. her freedom is due to a believable failure of the conspiracy, not because of her personal awesomeness.
Allison’s abduction while she maced and blew her rape whistle was a series highlight for me. So in character and hilarious.
So was Allison’s t-shirt a “Comminity” shout out? Glendale Comminity theatre.
When I was in high school, there were identical twin boys in my grade, Mark and Scott. Mark was in my junior year, second period English class. The other had a free period / study hall then. In the final month of the year, our English teacher Mr. Mitchell asks “How many times has your brother Scott taken your place in this class? Six??” To which Mark sheepishly replied, “Uh yeah. You knew about that?” And Mr. Mitchell said “I could always tell, because those days you just got so animated in the discussions.” Everyone else in class (myself included I admit) had no idea they’d ever traded places. So, I imagine it could happen.
Leaky, BTW, may have charm and charisma and be able to grandstand during his EST-like seminars, but he’s a complete tool. Sarah could’ve kicked him in the balls and said “That was for kira, ya bloody sot!” and he’d reply “Cosima…why??”
I just blew through the first season last week because I hadn’t managed to get into it last year. Allison is, without doubt, my absolute favorite character on the show. Especially any time she interacts with Felix. But her standing next to Ramon’s open Contraband Trunk while he cycled through his various illicit items and called her “Mrs. Hendrix” made me giggle so hard I had to go back and watch it again. I especially liked how she told Ramon to say hi to his mom for her at the end.
Speaking of Ramon, when he delivered the flowers, he clearly got a good look at Cosima and Sarah. So that’s one more person who knows that there are several of the same woman running around–I wonder if that’s a hint that he’ll be back later in some capacity.
The female detective whose name escapes me at the moment is getting on my nerves. I understand her purpose in the story and I realize that she’s probably pissed about the whole Beth thing, but something about her just makes me grind my teeth every time she’s on screen.
That was probably the instruction given to the casting director: ‘get us someone who will make viewers grind their teeth.’ ^_~
Good catch on Ramon’s new knowledge making it likely that the character will be seen again. I hadn’t thought of that. But, yeah: I suppose they could fob him off with a ‘we’re triplets’ story…still, the fact that he knows makes him unusual on this show–and that might signal more screen time to come. (Odd that Cosima and Sarah didn’t seem to feel any need to hide…)
Yes, that’s exactly what made it weird to me. They both just stood there and stared at him.
I thought that episode was a bit of a letdown after the awesome season opener, but still very good.
Various things we learned, or questions raised:
-Thomas was one faction inside his movement (whose name I have forgotten), and now Helena is in the hands of a different, more-science-y faction, which it seems likely is going to want to get her pregnant. This faction lives on a farm and dresses in a way that is both quaint and kind of creepy
-Mrs. S is a stone-cold killer who used to run guns. Is she “on Sarah’s side”? Well, maybe? She did let her go after the birdwatchers betrayed them, but she also does seem to have been involved in that 1970s project, which she lied about
-Does Art actually want to help Sarah, or is he just trying to learn more so he can arrest everyone, or both? (Also, do he and Angie know that Helena was the real killer?) (And what did that douchey lawyer tell him that made him back so far away from the case? Anything specific?)
-Does Cosima asking for the “source” genome (or something of that sort) imply that all the clones we’ve seen are copies of a previously existing individual? Is there a 45-year-old version of them running around somewhere? Because THAT would be a serious challenge for Tatiana Maslany and the makeup department.
-Will the revelation of who her watcher really is/was cause Alison to back away from working with the Dyad institute?
One little touch I loved was the Dyad institute having this gleaming modern building that still connects to a creepy old brick building. Wonderful visual symbolism.
Yea man, just letters away from “Greendale Community College”! (???)
Here’s an article about the woman who plays opposite of Maslany any time two or more clones are together in a shot. Neat!
