An anti climatic ending to a heist of the treasured statue, for sure, but the quote from the man who found the missing statuettes is better than a script. ( IMHO)
What a lovely story. I hope they give him a great, big reward.
Well I’m glad that the reward will be going to some poor Joe that could use the money. (that’s what he seems like from the article.)
But if I had found the oscars, I would have kept at least one for myself. Of course, maybe he did! The LA Times today said that only 52 out of 55 were recovered.
Why would you keep one? So you could point out to your friends that you had some stolen property?
If you like the statue you should be able to buy a copy.
No, I would keep one so that when I’m old and I tell my friends a tall tale involving me winning an Academy Award in my youth, and they call me a liar, I can pull out the statue and say “So how do you explain this?”
Ya gotta wonder what Billy Crystal is going to say Sunday night… Or what Bruce Vilanch (the show’s writer) will write for him.
When all else fails, ask Cecil.
Perhaps they’ll give the guy an honorary award. Hell, they gave one to Elia Kazan and he’s a stoolie. At the very least the Academy should invite him to the ceremony.
Didn’t he try to split one open?

“First you apply the polish, then buff gently” Keep those Oscars nice and shiny.
