I only voted in matchups where I have seen both of the films. Strong bracket there. SPR, LA Con., and The Usual Suspects are all in my top-five films. I didn’t vote for The Usual Suspects because I haven’t yet seen TWBB.

[1] The Wizard of Oz
[7] Sunrise
[11] Fantasia
[5] The Grapes of Wrath
Once again, I tip my hat to a movie (The Wizard of Oz) that I personally don’t much like, but must admit its technical genius and lasting cultural impact.
1948-1967
[8] The Hustler
[2] To Kill a Mockingbird
[11] Spartacus
[4] High Noon
“High Noon” versus “Bonnie and Clyde” was a very, very tough call.
1968-1987
[1] Star Wars
[7]Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
[3] Raiders of the Lost Ark
[12] All the President’s Men
Thsi one was tough. “Raiders of the Lost Ark” versus “Raging Bull” is an insanely tough decision; two of the best movies made in my lifetime, absolutely monumental achievements in cinema, but totally different, so how do you compare them?
It’s a curious artifact of bracketing that I picked “Star Wars,” but not “The Empire Strikes Back,” even though the latter is a better movie.
I think “Apocalypse Now” is terribly overrated.
1988-2007
[1] The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
[2] The Usual Suspects
[11] Fargo
[4] Saving Private Ryan
“The Fellowship of the Ring” was far and away the best of the three movies, and the only one I’d consider a legitimately great movie.
I have never really understood why people think “L.A. Confidential” is a masterpeice.
That’s debatable, but Star Wars (1977) was my pick because of its innovation. ESB was not as innovative (and I didn’t like it as much - my subjective opinion)
