Oscar watch-along thread

WAG: Running 30 minutes late, and want to finish around midnight ET?

I was kind of glad that Sandra Bullock won, if only because The Blind Side was based on a book and magazine article by Michael Lewis, a writer whose work I’ve often enjoyed.

You may be right about that one, but for what its worth Halle Berry won an oscar for Monsters Ball, and then won a Razzie the next year for Catwoman (so, within a 12 month period). As an aside, she showed up to the Razzies to receive her award… with her oscar in her hand.

Congrats to Archive Guy in the pool.

Meryl Streep has won two, for Kramer vs Kramer and Sophie’s Choice.

edited to add: Someone beat me to it. You people are quick.

Hurt Locker… upset?

Wow, I only missed 3 awards! (Original & Adapted Screenplay, and Foreign Film.) I should have entered the Straight Dope pool!

Whoop! Just by a hair. Lucky shmucky.

Were there ANY upsets? I was saying Hurt Locker was going to win 6 months ago.,…

I was dead last for the first hour, but finished in a pretty respectable 9th place. So much for taking some chances on the films I thought deserved it more. Lesson - ALWAYS go with the Pixar pic (except for best picture)

Well that’s a relief. If Avatar had won I would have been a grumpy SOB for the next few weeks. Hopefully people will go see/buy/rent Hurt Locker tomorrow.

To be honest, I really didn’t like Precious that much. The acting was good, but the storytelling just didn’t seem appropriate for the story.

If anything else had to have won, I’d have wanted it to be District 9, but that was an incredibly long shot.

Congrats to KB and the Hurt Locker. It was the best of the movies I’ve seen. Hopefully it’l be more widely seen.

No, I don’t think so. It was between that and Avatar but most people gave the edge to The Hurt Locker as it won many pre-Oscar awards.

Apparently Sandra Bullock showed up to receive her Razzie also, which i think shows some good spirit and a willingness not to take yourself too seriously.

I think the only surprise win of the night was “Precious” winning Best Adapted Screenplay.

wins best speech, too.

I swear i saw the very cool Samuel L. roll his eyes when Monique finished that strange rant

It looked to me like Meryl waved her away, in a go-get-your-award type gesture.

Here is Mo’Nique had to say about the politics thing.

MTV Story

I find the production of this year’s Oscars to be very poor. The director regularly was late cutting to an appropriate shot, the sound was poorly managed and whomever decided to cut the Lifetime Achievement Award from the live show is an idiot. The horror film segment was a waste, the In Memorium segment was poorly managed (and forgot people), and the dance routine was good in its own right but a complete waste.

Basically proves that Avatar was a visual spectacular…below average movie.

Yeah, I don’t think there was any type of snub involved. It seemed like when you go to hug someone, but they’re not aware, so you turn away and then they see what you were up to and try to return the hug, but you’ve already turned away, kind of thing. If that makes any sense.

So what was Sean Penn on about? Who did he think deserved to be nominated? What a jackass.
