Oscars: Blue disks and Ian McKellen's tinsel?

It looked like a lot of LOTR folks were wearing blue disks on their jackets. Was that some Oscar security pass or does it have political meaning (a la yellow ribbons)? And why as Ian McKellen wearing read tinsel?

RED tinsel.

I believe they were good luck charms given to them by the fan club.

I believe I should have previewed!

I guess the charms worked. Yay!

I don’t know about the blue disks, but Ian McKellen was wearing a string of Mardi Gras beads on his wrist. Which makes you wonder what he did to get them …

Same way everyone else does. By showing his tits.

I didn’t notice any “tinsel” on Sir Ian but was it possibly some form of the AIDS awareness red ribbon?

On a related note, was I hallucinating or was Tim Robbins wearing a small black and white peace button on his left lapel when he won his Oscar, only to have removed it by the time he and Susan Sarandon appeared as presenters?

The blue disks came from the theonering.net (TORN).

RObbins certainly was wearing a peace lapel pin when he accepted his Oscar; I didn’t notice if he had it on or not when presenting.

Ian McKellen was wearing red Mardi Gras beads as a bracelet. He showed them on the red carpet during the pre-show. He was not wearing a red AIDS ribbon. And the peace sign button on Tim Robbins’ lapel was indeed gone when he was presenting the award for screenplay, probably at the request of the show’s producers.

Here’s my question: Who was the old woman sitting with Clint Eastwood? Is he finally dating someone his own age?

I’m not a fan of the LotR trilogy at all but I love the solidarity the actors that were in it have shown. That everyone seems to be such good friends and that they all stick together is just really cool.

I bought a Gollum ring from Badali almost 2 decades ago. It’s mindblowing to think that the man I used to see at town fairs just had product placement on the Oscars.

He’s a great artist and a true fanboy.

walloon, that is mama eastwood.
