Our best winter photographs

We don’t really get typically wintery scenes in the southwest normally, but this year we got a couple of icy days. At last - something to use for this year’s Xmas cards.

I’ll second the praise for this. You’ve made it more than a pretty winter scene by your composition and your stunning use of (if I may talk dirty for a moment) bokeh. You’ve obviously got real talent.

We don’t get much of a winter out here, but here are some from December:

Another.

I had to go back to Silver Spring at the end of January when my Dad had emergency surgery. We got some snow and ice when I was there. Here are a few photos:
Ice.
Snow.

Some pictures from Mont Royal from my recent visit with friends in Montreal (the wildlife seemed particularly friendly that day):

Very nice.

The Ullswater and Patterdale pictures brought back plenty of memories. I lived right by Ullswater for two years in the early 1990s, and the walk up and around Helvellyn was one of my favorite things. There’s nothing like walking across Striding Edge with a sea of fog below.

Unfortunately, because that was the era before digital photography, nearly all my pictures are still boxed up in slide boxes. And they’re all back in Australia as well. A couple of years back, though, i picked a few of my favorites to scan for a little online gallery.

The frosty trees are great.

I’m doing photography for my Thing-a-Day project this year. Here is a nice wintry shot taken the morning after we got about 6" of snow. (I linked to the album instead of the shot in case you want to see some of the others.)

Nice repeating patterns with the trees and the cars.

mhendo, your pictures are amazing! You even make grazing cows look beautiful.

Great pictures everyone.

A morning shot of Mt Lincoln (14k something) from the deck of my house.

That the moon is an ornament on top of the tree is a complete accident.

Same morning from my deck looking a little bit more to the south.

I really, really need to start taking some more pics.

Best? I dunno, but here’s my favorite of the season so far:
