Oh come on!
It’s the Eastern Shore, it’s not like regular Maryland.
That’s nothing. It’s not as if he was caught soliciting sex from a minor over the internet, which is what I thought this was going to be about.
Says the Sussex County boy.
Just because I don’t know the geography, was he arrested in Wicomico County, the county he’s prosecutor for, or was he arrested in a neighboring county? Not that one is better than the other.
He was arrested in Worcester pronounced (warsh-ter) the neighboring county. As a geographic reference Ocean City MD is in Worcester County.
Is anyone offering a pool for he’ll keep the job but get a meaningless letter of censure?
Why is having the gun in the car so important?
They couldn’t confrm the hooker in the trunk?
It’s unlikely he’ll just get a slap on the wrist - A State’s Attorney is about the last person on the planet who can afford even a single DUI. It may sound corny, but a lot of the influence a States Attorney wields is not just statutory, but is through their reputation as an upright person. The fact that he had almost twice the BA limit at .15, and had a loaded gun in the car takes it to another level entirely. He may well lose his job.
The word on the street is also that he is a heavy social drinker at times has been warned about this before (administratively but off the record) and has no strikes left.
From the article, it’s a misdemeanor in the state to be carrying a licensed handgun when you’re under the influence of alcohol.
I guess somewhere in the back of my mind, (maybe movie influenced) I assumed that most DA’s would have an instant approval for a CCW, due to the public nature and profile of their jobs.
Yeah, he’ll probably get fired. The bar may require some kind of alcohol counseling, but he’ll probably keep his law license and move to private practice. His prosecuting days are almost certainly over, though. Bet he’s kicking himself.
Yah, me too. I thought he’d just say, “Hey, a lot of perps are mad at me, I need a gun for protection” and sorta shift his belt around like John Wayne and it’d be no biggie. But the article makes it sound like the gun is a bigger deal than the DUI.
In a movie, this is the first 20 minutes of the plot. We’re now at, “Drunken loser decides to turn his life around”; brace yourself for a montage of gym-workout, jogging, throwing-away-bottles. And after that, the attempted reconciliation with the girlfriend…
It’s not a permission to carry issue. He authorized to do that, it’s simply against the law to do it while over the limit.
If it’s not entirely obvious to you why it is a bad idea to take a loaded gun along with you when you are planning to go out drinking, you are clearly not someone who is responsible enough to be allowed to carry a gun.
Apparently the gun was also loaded, which in some jurisdictions is a big no-no if it’s stashed in the car. Dunno about Maryland, though.
Oh i didn’t know that. Just having a gun in your car while you are drunk in your car isn’t illegal in Colorado
