Our trivia final question last night was essentially unsolvable

Pfft if you want hard trivia questions see Great Midwest Trivia Contest

Example:
During WWII, the Wimbledon Lawn and Tennis Club was used as a military base. In August 1940, two pigs were brought to Wimbledon for the troops to eat. These were the first pigs to be brought to the base. What were the two pigs’ names, and what was the name of the man who slaughtered them?

Granted, research is allowed, but still tricky (IIRC two teams got this)

Brian

Clear something up for me. Was it:

Final – MUSIC – Identify the song title the following bands share:

<now you bet, after which you see, for the first time, the four answers>

  1. Maroon 5 and Soul Asylum
  2. Rehab and O.A.R.
  3. Radiohead and TLC
  4. Led Zeppelin and Mariah Carey

Or is it:
Final – MUSIC – Identify the song title the following bands share:

  1. Maroon 5 and Soul Asylum

  3. Radiohead and TLC
  4. Led Zeppelin and Mariah Carey

<now you bet, and bet it all despite not knowing that you didn’t know the answer to #2>

It is about as accurate as calling her the “Queen of Coventry”.

Trivia note: One of Elizabeth’s titles is the Duke of Normandy. Apparently the holder is always titled as a Duke, regardless of their gender.

Sure is. If you ask any Coventrite who their queen is, they’ll all tell you it’s Liz. “Queen of England” is probably more appropriate for general use, though, since England is a fairly substantial and significant portion of her realm, much more so than Coventry is.

It still is not her correct title.

You can argue that she rules over England (as a subsection of her realm) until the cows come home, but you’ll never escape the fact that there is no “Queen of England” and has not been since the 1st of May 1707.

It’s perfectly reasonable to complain about a truely unanswerable question in a trivia quiz. It’s not like the OP is threatening them with a shotgun or anything. Probably would have been better to tone down the complaint a little and leave out any references to costs, but hey.
