Outlook Express help

I use Outlook Express as a secondary mail program – long story. Until yesterday OE would always notify me when an e-mail arrived by putting a small envelope icon into the lower right corner of the screen. (The area is called the tray I believe.) No it no longer does and I don’t believe I changed anything. I see in options how to make OE play a sound when I get mail, but I cannot find this option. Can anyone help me? I’m running XP on a PC not Mac, if it matters.

If you are using ‘Customized Notifications’ in your system tray, your ‘new mail’ icon may be hidden. Expand your system tray and see if it is there. If it is, right-click the double arrow at the left of the system tray, choose “Customize notifications…” and next to the icon for new mail, choose ‘Always Show’.

Had the same thing happen to me and this was the culprit. If it’s not this, I’m at a loss. Try rebooting.
