I have recently started using OE. I got tired of using the MSN Premium software that came with Verizon DSL, so I exported my MSN mail to OE. My mail is not going under “Local Folder”. It is going to another folder called “http://oe.msn.msnmail.hotmail.com/cgi-bin/hmdata”. I’m thinking this is the reason I can’t use the calendar. I also tried downloaded Mozilla Thunderbird and export my OE mail to there and it only exported the two e-mails in the “Local Folder” welcoming me to Outlook. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
Ok, back the bus up a little.
OE = Outlook Express (There’s no calendar)
Outlook = Microsoft Outlook
Which one are you infact, trying to use?
I’m trying to use Outlook Express. There’s a sub folder under Local Folder called “calendar”.
Sounds to me like it got placed there, during one of your attempts at importing/ exporting.
If you’re trying to use an email client with a Calendar, it is indeed Outlook (Not express) that you should be using.
Oh well. Thanks for helping, it was driving me nuts.
But since I’ve got you here.
Since I’ve been using OE, everything has been better than MSN Premium except one thing. With MSN Premium I’m notified in the lower right hand corner the moment I get an e-mail. I tried setting OE to check for mail every minute but it froze up on me. I was told that setting it for every minute uses alot system resources. I now have it set up to check every five minutes. Is there a way around this?
I’ve no idea why it would freeze up on you?
I’ve got mine set to check every 1 minute…and I leave it minimized, as I go about my merry old way.
Can you give me some system specs?
What Operating System are you using?
How much Ram?
Take a quick look down by your clock…count how many icons you see down there.
(Perhaps you have too many things running in the background?)
This shouldn’t be too hard to figure out.
Well, it only happened once, so I’ll try it again and see how it works this time. I’m using Windows XP. 950 mhz processor, ram is 512. The only icons I have are the speaker icon, power icon and the Windows Security Alerts icon. I’m going to change it to every minute now.
It shouldn’t freeze with those specs.
Does it freeze any other time?
You might want to check your email settings against this page?
Windows security alerts?
Hover your pointer over that.
What does it say?
Are you not running any antivirus or firewall?
No, I don’t have any problems with anything freezing up on a regular basis, it was just that one time. No, I’m not using an antivirus. I know, I know, but I am very careful. I don’t open any strange e-mails and I use Mozilla Firefox almost exclusively. My DSL connection uses a router, so that acts as a hardware type firewall.
Alright. I’ll do my best to hold my tongue.
Did you check your email set up against the link I posted?
I’m using MSN mail, not Verizon.
Your very first post said you were using Verizon DSL as your internet provider.
Then you went on to say that you were trying to use Outlook Express as your email client.
The link I posted, shows how to do that.
Verizon DSL comes with MSN Premium software. You get both Verizon mail service and MSN mail service. I use the MSN mail.
