Outlook posts invitations to calendar before they're accepted

When I receive an invitation via email in Outlook 2007 (2003 did the same thing), it automatically posts the item to my calendar as “tentative” upon receiving it. It does not actually accept the invitation (auto-accept is not turned on) but still the item stays on the calendar until I accept, or decline it. If I delete an invitation without responding to it at all, the item stays on the calendar until I delete it from my Deleted folder.

This never bothered me before but now it’s causing problems when I sync to my Google calendar (for reasons I won’t get into here).

I have not found an option to turn this off. Is there any way to suppress this?

No. The purpose is so that if for some reason that you failed to notice the invite in your in-box it would still show up on your calendar as “tentative”, so you wouldn’t somehow miss the meeting or event.

And that’s a noble purpose, but not the one I want. Even if I delete the invitation? I’m not even sure I can solve with a rule.

Thanks for the post…
