Shouldn’t that be overactive kidneys? I am under the impression that the bladder is just a bag with a valve at the bottom. Like one of those wine thingies from Spain.
Peace,
mangeorge
The bladder is a richly ennervated muscular organ, which expands and contracts under more than just the influence of how much urine is in it. It is far more complex than a wineskin. Bladders get irritated and spastic, causing frequent voiding or the sensation of pain and/or the need to void. They get dilated and overstretched and incapable of emptying properly. They get lots of other problems.
So no, it’s not overactive kidneys for the vast majority of people

Thanks, doc. Nothing about the body is simple, is it.
Another related question, please.
Is it harmful to “hold your pee”.
Kidneys are working all the time. They are always overactive.
Bl;adders are the Teamsters of the body. Sometimes they work when you want them too. Sometimes they sleep when you want them to work. Sometimes they freak out, go spastic, and bury your body under the end zone at the Louisiana Superdome.
There is no benefit to holding pee. The bladder is muscular and can hold it for a while – doing this often may help the detrusor muscle do this better. But it’s painful, and rarely, the bubble bursts.
