Overloading bandwith

I’m logged into my password protected wifi, but so many people stream from it at once it’s not worth using. I was wondering what I can do to run the bandwith up so much they can’t stream Netflix or other video? I want to do this for a few minutes so they give up and log off. It’s a home wifi. Ideas?

um what? if it’s your password protected home wifi then who else is using it? If its your flatmates can’t you just talk to them and get them to stop using it when you want to watch netflix?

if you have access to the router you can force people to disconnect. biggest question is who are you sharing your home wifi with? (and why?)

The gremlins who live in his attic.

if it’s your WIFI and others are using it without your permission, just change the password.

Yeah, I don’t get the OP either. Either everyone is using the WiFi with permission (so, discuss it) or they’re not (change the pw.)

Or he wants to fix the problem stealthily. Sigh.

BTW, the problem might not be the others using his WiFi. It could be his neighbors using up the local link bw. I have this problem occasionally, even there are no kids in the neighborhood.

Yep, sounds like too many people on his local line from the exchange. In which case, no trying to use bandwidth to kick them off will not work. Change companies is your only solution… if you’re in a town with only one ISP, then sorry you’re out of luck.

Is this one of those routers that the phone company, either verizon or AT&T make you use, and a portion of the bandwidth is “shared” with other customers" ?

If not, you want to read up on turning off the guest internet setting, or setting up a white list for your devices, and dialing down guest wifi and giving them 56k max speed.
