Overriding Windows downloader ?

Most of the time, with a zip file for example, my ‘Download Accelerator Plus’ kicks in (or I have a choice), ditto FTP, but it seems, with some file types, or in some circumstances, the pre-installed Windows default programme still kicks in no matter what I try to do. And it’s crappy.

Any suggestions for overriding the settings ? - If it helps any, by request, I going to use – would like to use, rather - WinAce for this particular d/l But the question’s not about preferred downloading proggys. Thanks

Oh, it’s Windows ME.

You could always just paste the URL into DAP.

what if you drag & drop the link rather than clicking it?

On the computer in my studio if you hold “alt” while you click on a link, it bypasses the downloader program.

I’m not there right now, so I can’t verify what program it it, though. It might work for you.

Tsk, tsk. Preview, preview.

Okay, I think I’ve worked it out – I think the guy meant to say extract with WinAce. Duh ! So, now I’m d/l with DAP and I’ll see how she goes when it’s time to extract…!
The weird thing was it’s a Yahoo briefcase file and I couldn’t – can’t – for the life of me find the full URL of the thing I’m downloading. Nor can I drag and drop it – but DAP (‘Download with DAP’) is on the right-click menu so that isn’t a problem. Underway…

Thanks for the ideas, chaps ! and Delta 9, your idea didn’t work for me but I wish it had – could be a handy manoeuvre in the future.
BTW, that Windows default proggy may only be kicking in on d/l’s that can’t be resumed – make any sense ?
