Oz VC awarded! Well done, sir!

From here:

Very well done indeed.

Some things just make you proud to be human.

I see a many lying wounded on the ground, about the length of a football field away, said ground being swept by machine gun fire – as much as I’d like to think I’d be able summon up the courage to go and try and save him, my instinct tells me I’d be huddling under cover with my fingers in my ears.

Stupendous job, sir.

Bloody well done mate, you’re the best of the best.

Serving with this sort of person is one of the intangible, but very real, benefits of being in the military. Trooper Donaldson, along with his comrades, is among the best of us.

I’m actually not suprised he went to those lengths for his terp. Those guys are doing a fabulous job, at great personal risk, and they are absolutely lion-hearted. The troops they’re with love them. My son talks about driving his Stryker at breakneck speed through the streets of Baghdad to get his terp back to his FOB after he (the terp) was wounded in a suicide bomb attack. We had a couple come through when I was in Bagram, and they had lots of visits from their unit’s leadership.

That is really cool. I love all the stories of those who receive the VC. If they’re still alive to have it pinned on them - even better
