PA Man Beheads Govt. Emp. Father, Posts Video Online, Calls For "Revolution" Against Biden

You mean like Australia? It’s just that you say that as if it were an impossibility.

I was thinking Australia when I wrote that. Perhaps I should have written “another [sort of] continent-sized island.”

I have a very dear friend who is fully schizophrenic. He is always having to interrupt his ongoing conversations to participate in the live ones around him. He is also a truly gentle soul. His parents were also gentle people, kind and loving in every way. I don’t think it’s a coincidence.

I started this thread in the Pit because I wanted to call out the right-wing agitprop that motivates people to crimes like this without falling afoul of the no-political-jabs rule.

I wasn’t expecting a hijack about custom globes.

How about the hijack about housing prices?

My grandfather, a ham enthusiast, had a globe that he’d re-mounted with Cleveland (his location) at the pole, so he could easily find the Great Circle direction to any other point.

When I order hams, I want the most direct route as well.

Well, the house price was mentioned in the story as an odd detail, so I kinda can understand that sidetrack. How in the hell did we get to globes, anyway? Shit, I’m partially responsible for mentioning one in the Mercator projection discussion about Greenland, but how did we get to Mercator?

God, I missed these kinds of wild secondary and tertiary discussions since we’ve really cracked down on them in most of the forums.

One example does not justify such a sweeping, vicious statement as you made. There are many variations of paranoid schizophrenia having little or nothing to do with how gentle and kind the parents are.

Me, I threw out some facts about the relative size of countries and I fucked it all up.

My bad.

Nope. Your good.

The Tellus Science museum in Cartersville, GA (yes that’s a real place and not a bad TV sitcom from the 70s) has one that shows the movement of tectonic plates over the millennia. Pretty cool to see the Indian subcontinent SMASH into Asia.

Well, you just have to turn it on its side to get through the door. Duh.

Bolding added for easier comprehension. I gave a carefully excepted answer to a sweeping generalization. Also, I gave a single example of an actual person with Schizophrenia in answer to your post about Schizophrenia with a cite about a person with Schizoaffective Disorder. Those are two entirely different things.

Schizoaffective Disorder is a mood disorder with symptoms of hallucination or delusion. It’s far more likely to include aggression. You have now added Paranoid Schizophrenia to the discussion, which is also not what I was responding to, and far more likely to include aggression than the post I responded to.

I seem to know more about it than you do.

You are quite literally blaming the father, but slapping on a lame qualifier which does nothing to change the gist of what you’re accusing. You may as well have added, “Some people are saying”.

You are doing a huge disservice to struggling parents. “Rare exceptions for kids born with defective brains”? Seriously?

Astonishing victim-blaming going on here.

You are reading into my post intent which is neither intended by me nor supported by my words. Please let it go. I’m not going to join in this back and forth any further.

NO ONE expects a hijack about custom globes!

Somebody was going to do it.

Totally with you. I know a lot of feds; this is very scary shit. The tone of this thread is perplexing. Is it just because the perp is completely cracked in the head, and thus his actions were not purely, or mostly, political?

There’s a lot of people in this strange country who would absolutely kill any federal employee if they thought they could get away with it, and unfortunately they’re not all certifiable. One nutjob does not a political movement make, but his action seems pretty symbolic of some of the more deranged right-wingers we deal with in the USA, of whom there are many millions.

Hope this is not scolding, and if it is, flame away, but I really am puzzled as to why the overwhelming reaction here is light humor.

I won a very nice globe when I was in 4th grade.

There was a column in the Pittsburgh Press (RIP) comics page called Johnny Wonder that answered kids’ science-type questions. I decided to submit a winning question. Looking at the types of questions, I realized that I could write a “sure thing” question.

So I did. “What is the difference between a frog and a toad”. I knew the answer, and could write it in a few simple paragraphs that would fit perfectly in the column. I submitted my question and a few weeks later it was printed and I received my globe.

Even then I was a cynic.

I’m curious about this logic. Why is beheading any sicker than shooting with a gun? A guillotine seems to be a pretty humane form of execution, as such things go. Not that I think that was the instrument in this case, but it is an example of beheading.

What disturbs me in this case is the display of the severed head, like a trophy. So, I guess, the desecration of the corpse on top of the murder.

I’m so grateful to my folks for buying the family a globe. I was very small, and I think it was the first world map I saw.
