Just when you think Universal’s deal with Hasbro couldn’t be topped, Hollywood proves once again its unending insanity: Crystal Sky Pictures and Grosvenor Park have announced a five-picture, $200 million. Included in the deal are two video game adaptations: Castlevania, based on the long-running Konami franchise about the heroic Belmonts and their quests to slay Dracula, and…Pac-Man, based on the classic Namco-Bandai title about a yellow thing who eats, dies, and not much else.
Castlevania I can see as a film, since there’s already plot to go on, but Pac-Man? I don’t even know what kind of plot you could come up with for a Pac-Man movie. But, then again, Hanna-Barbera did a Pac-Man cartoon back in the '80s, so maybe you can base a plot on the little yellow blob. Maybe.
As long as Castlevania isn’t being directed by Uwe Boll, I’m okay with it. But please have it include a Belmont and not one of the new-fangled main characters. Belmonts all the way, please.
As for Pac-Man…well, as long as it doesn’t turn out like this comic I’ll be okay, I guess. (Warning, comic is So Very NSFW)
You know, I’m now half tempted to see if they would cough up the funding if I were to walk in tomorrow and ask for financing for Dig Dug: The Operetta.
