As a Vikings fan who is still pissed off about getting robbed on a bogus PI call a few weeks ago, I just wanted to take this opportunity to say the following to Packer fans:
BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!! You got beat by a fucking DOME team at LAMBEAU, in DECEMBER. Your hall-of-fame quarterback got totally outplayed by a kid with two separated shoulders and a bad thumb!
How about that play when KGB had Vick by the helmet for a sure sack. Vick wrenched free and broke upfield for like a ten yard gain. Vick had a great quote about that play after the game:
“We’ve been practicing that play for weeks and we finally got a chance to try it.”
Favre needs to walk away now. His time is over. I have seen the future, and his name is Michael Vick.
I thought about starting a new thread, but I figure this is as good as any to rant about John Madden. At the end of the game he said something to the tune of “I had a feeling the Falcons were going to win when they walked on to the field.” Well thak you very much Miss Cleo. Personally, I think he’s full of shit. nobody on the planet expected Atlanta to win, except maybe Micheal Vick. (that kid certainly doesn’t lack for confidence) How on earth do you make a comment like that and expect people to believe you? Now maybe he really did think that, but I didn’t hear him say that before the game…so his “Oh I knew they would win all along” comment makes him look like an ass. All season he has driven me nuts and this is just the icing on the cake. Somebody please send him the way of Frank Gifford. Ok rant over…sorry for the hijack.
Disclaimer: If Madden did say something to that effect before the game, then I missed it and take back all of the bad things I said before…except that he’s driven me nuts all year. That still stands.
Oh by the way…can’t wait till Vick visits Philly. He will go home licking his wounds.
Ol’ Madden didn’t suck up to Brett Frarvre as much this game, did he? I can foresee a few more pit rants down the line: “Madden wants to fellate Michael Vick’s daddy and is annoying as hell anyway.”
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I’m a diehard VaTech fan, so I was rooting for Vick and Atlanta. But I’m also a lifelong Philadelphia Eagles fan, so about halfway through the fourth quarter I realized that maybe Atlanta advancing wasn’t such a good thing after all. There’s nothing more dangerous in the playoffs than a team with nothing to lose. Yeah, sure, Philly’s defense is better than Green Bay’s, but Vick is just… Christ, I don’t even want to think about it.
Next week will be interesting, to say the least. Go Iggles!
Bedrosian, I agree that Madden’s act got old long ago, and the he and Michaels together are well-nigh insufferable, but look at the bright side. at least we don’t have to listen to that "Favre-undefeated-in-cold-weather-games-at-home anymore. Just think, Michael Vick now has a perfect play-off record at Lambeau Field and Bret Favre does not.
Don’t be so sure that Vick won’t stick it to Philly, though. This kid is different. He’s got that indefinable “it” quality that guys like Michael Jordan and Iiger Woods have. Even if he doesn’t do it this year, he’s going to get to some Super Bowls.
Born, bred, lifelong, AND dyed-in-the-wool Atlanta Falcons fan checking in here:
Oh my god, that game fucking ROCKED. To be honest, going into it I thought we had a chance to win. I did not for one second think we had a chance to win by TWENTY FUCKING POINTS. I’m sorry for all the Packers fans (and when they’re not playing the Falcons, I’m a Packers fan myself), but it is pretty rare that a Falcons fan gets to feel this great about his team, and I am one happy fan. That was a game for the history books in many, many ways. In fact, I’d say it was the second-biggest game in Falcons history, after the 1998 NFC championship game against Minnesota. Go Falcons!*
Here’s hoping that in the 2003 draft we pick up a Jerry Rice or an Andre Rison, so Vick will have someone to throw to…
*[sub]Some of you may recall that in the Bad Old Days in Atlanta, we used to say, “Go Braves! And take the Falcons with you!” Having been patient, and more to the point LOYAL, through all the horrible, pathetic, embarrassing years, I feel completely justified in bragging about the Falcons now.[/sub]
This 49er fan is absolutely giddy with girlish delight (equal to unwrapping a puppy on Christmas morning), to watch Green Bay get their asses kicked the last 2 weeks.
Dammit. The only thing that kept me from getting too upset about the Saints terrible playing the last few weeks was the fact that they would have gotten owned by the Packers at Lambaugh anyway.
With the Packers playing like that, they coulda won it easily!
Very true; witness what happened to the Falcons when Jamal Anderson blew his knee out. And then blew his other knee out. I hate being dependent on one player that way (anyone watching Tiki Barber singlehandedly beat the 49ers?).
Although our backup QB, Doug Johnson, has a mighty good arm. He’s come in a few times this season and done respectably. He doesn’t run like Vick, of course; more like a healthy Chris Chandler than a young Randall Cunningham. Nonetheless, I don’t panic when he comes in as I have with our backup QBs in the past (remember Graziani? Or even Favre when he was a Falcon and was terrible?).
Ouch! Wow the Pack looked really bad. However, blaming the loss on Brett Favre is ridiculous. Special Teams, Defense, Coaching, Offensive play calling all were subpar. To see the Pack play so badly at Lambeau in January during the playoffs was sad. I’m glad you get to revel in other’s pain, Diogenes.
Vick is amazing, and a helluva lotta fun to watch, when he’s not beating the hell out of the Packers. Crowing him the future of the NFL is a tad bit premature, though, and saying it’s over for Favre is even more goofy.
Ah well, all we have is a divisional championship to enjoy. How’s those Vikes looking?
Last year, after the Bears were beaten soundly by the Eagles, I had several strangers on Division street rip me a new asshole and it hurt. When you’re a dedicated, heartfelt football fan (or any sports fan), it’s crappy to have your season end in a ‘win and you go home’ situation. I’m a girl, and I DO get emotional, and I’ll admit I was CRYING last year.
So, if you’re waiting for me to come in and pour salt in the wounds, I think I’ll pass.
Good season, Pack. Let’s renew the rivalry next year, eh?
I don’t really think that Favre is done, Hamlet. I was kind of in a giddy state of mind when I wrote the OP. I do think that Brett is past his prime, but even so, if it’s fourth and goal from the ten with one second left in the game, and you need one QB who is going to find a way to make the play, that guy is still Brett. You can’t be a football fan and not respect #4. (but I’m still glad the Packers lost )
(Oh, and the Vikes will be back next year. I think Tice will be a good coach and the team did finish with three straight wins, four if you coun’t the game that was stolen from them at Lambeau)
FWIW…the chatter about Favre retiring is increasing a bit. He looked (especially in the first half) like he really wasn’t mentally charged to be in the game. Of course it’s hard to maintain that intensity for 170+ straight games.
As awesome as the Falcons were, they won because Green Bay had too many turnovers. The Eagles aren’t going to turn the ball over 5 times, and the Eagles have a much better defense than the Packers. I think you can also expect a letdown after an upset like that.
Also, the last 10 NFC top seeds all made it to the championship game, and 8 of them went to the Super Bowl.
Of course, injuries that took out just about the entire Green Bay team helped, too. Green, Driver, Glenn, Brown…am I missing anyone? I think the Packers were playing their entire second string offense except for their line and Favre by the second half. Ridiculous.
