Yes, exactly. Me too on every word.
As Lambeau Field or Heinz Field shows, it is possible to have an NFL caliber field in the middle of winter in the upper Midwest. I don’t think the fact that the Bears’ field sucks means that no one in a cold city in the NFL can host the Super Bowl.
Lambeau has these nifty artificial turf strands interspersed with the natural grass.
Heinz Field is probably not the example you want to hold up. They have easily the worst field in the NFL on a consistent basis. Between that and the wind coming in from the open end it is ridiculously hard to kick there, among other things.
My favorite example. Soldier Field, as bad as it gets, could never be that bad. But that’s half the fun of watching the Steelers play at home. They’re used to it and usually play well, while the other team looks like they’re wearing ice skates.
Meh, I don’t really care. We’ve been winning all season with a crappy offense. Ben hasn’t been doing a good job moving around because of his broken ankle, and the preseason trade of Santonio has set our passing game back 10 years. Mendenhall’s been a bright spot, but when our offense has been 1 dimensional, he’s been struggling as well. In close games, these weaknesses get magnified, but usually, the defense has come through…when Polamalu’s played. When he does, mistake-prone offenses cough up a lot of points.
That’s the rub: the packer’s offense doesn’t make those kinds of mistakes. It’s hard to say which defense will give the steelers’ a harder time, but we haven’t been doing well on offense the entire season.
Donald Driver is a wide receiver. He would not be on the field at the same time as Cutler.
That’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying there’s a lot of the people who say “The championship shouldn’t by decided by such a crappy field” are the same people who say “Football shouldn’t be played in the dome! It should be played in the middle of a snowstorm! Players need to learn how to deal with different elements!”
Having your game subject to weather, and having your game subject to a field maintained by a chain gang of retarded squirrel rapists are seperate issues. Advocating for one does not necesarily mean advocating (or defending) the other.
Noobie question: The announcer keeps saying ‘tonight’. Is the game on NFL channel a rebroadcast? First time I’ve watched NFL channel, and I’m not quite sure what’s going on.
OK, checking the schedule I see that GB vs. Chicago is tomorrow at noon. So when was this game played?
Packers fans (as usual) are way too confident about this game. The Bears defense bottled up Green Bay in both of their regular season games, and now their offense is playing a lot better. The Bears have home field and even the physical turf tilts to the Bears’ advantage. The Bears’ defensive line is much better than the Packers’ O-line. Julius Peppers rubbed his balls all over Aaron Rodgers’ face in the first game, and is perfectly capable of doing it again. Green Bay will have no running game (just because Starks had one decent game against a bad run defense doesn’t mean the Packers suddenly have a running game).
The Bears offense againts Green Bay’s defense is more or less a wash. The Bears can play ball control against them, run the ball and set up play action shots down the field. The Bears aren’t a fireworks type of team, but the Packers are playing a bunch of ham and eggers in their defensive secondary, and Cutler is good enough to take advantage of them.
Special teams obviously is a big advantage for the Bears, and can consistently give their offense good starting field position, which is big in a low scoring, ball control type game (remember, the scoire of the last game was 10-3…this is not likely to be a shootout), and Hester getting into the end zone even once could make all the difference.
I think one factor that might make the most difference is how well the Bears’ secondary can cover the Packer’s receivers. The Packers’ passing game relies heavily on precise timing. I think the Bears need to be aggressive about bumping the Packer’s recievers on the line and knocking them out of their timing. Playing back and giving them a bubble never works. Rodgers finds them all day. If the Bears can disrupt the Packers’ timing on the pass plays, make Rodgers have to scramble and either put him on the ground or make him throw the ball away, then I think they have the advantage in every other aspect of the game and will win. If they can’t smother the receivers and Rodgers is able to chip away all day with those little 5, 8, 10 yard dink and dunks, then it’s going to be a lot higher hill.
If Packer fans think their team is going to go into Soldier Field and walk all over the Bears, they’re deluded, though. The Bears have been the one team who’s consistently been able to handle them on defense, and they’re also going to have the field, the crowd, the motivation, a quarterback, a special teams squad capable of changing games and an abiding hatred of the Packers. Not only can the Bears win, if the momentum starts going their way, they could win big.
You’re watching their game from January 2nd.

You never cease to bring a smile to my face when you try and talk football. Three out of four players in Green Bay’s secondary make the Pro Bowl, and you callthem ham and eggers. Too funny.
Really. The defensive secondary that has last year’s NFL defensive player of the year. A ham and egger.
The funny thing is, the recent BCS Championship game in Glendale AZ was played in a dome AND on a crappy field.
Go ham and eggers!!
Ham and eggs are delicious.
Green (Bay) eggs and ham?
What if its the Packers vs Jets, poor brett farve.
I think it will be Packers Vs Steelers though. In that game, I would root for the Packers but say the Steelers have the advantage. I always go for the underdog.
I haven’t seen the Bears play yet this year though so they may have it though. You can never be sure with the Jets. The Jets are a team who have to play a perfect game to win, they don’t have much slack. Just my opinion
