Didn’t Orton have a winning record with the Bears?
When the trade was made, Orton was 21-12 as a starter for the Bears. After this year, Cutler is 17-14 as a starter for the Bears (Cutler was 17-20 with the Broncos).
I just finished a great book about Lombardi’s first year with the Packers, Link and learned that Bart Starr’s record at one point was something like 5-15-3 (not exact figures since I’m doing that from memory). He turned out to be a pretty good QB.
What I’m saying is that a QB’s W/L Record is a worthless measurement, not matter what anyone else says. It is entirely too dependent on factors beyond the QB’s control.
The Bears traded for Cutler for 2 reasons. To win in the playoffs and to save the GM and coaches jobs. Both were accomplished. If Cutler would have survived this game and taken the Bears to the Super Bowl, would you stop repeating the idiotic statement that Orton has outperformed him? If he’d have won the Super Bowl? Neither fact would have changed the passer rating of the two players after all.
I think Orton could have easily smoked the Seahawks last week with this Bears team.
Orton would have been injured in week 7. There’s certainly no way he scrambles for 2 rushing TDs. I respectfully call bullshit on that claim. The eyes don’t lie.
He also lost in the playoffs when he didn’t get to play the 27th ranked pass defense on a team with a losing record. I, for one, am glad the bar is set that low for QB’s in Chicago.
Is it “outperformed” that have your little Black and Orange panties in a bunch? Orton had better stats and a higher passer rating in both years since the trade. Call it whatever you want, it won’t change that fact.
And I do love how you completely ignore that Cutler absolutely sucked in the game before he got injured. 6 for 14, for 80 yards, 0 td’s and 1 int. Instead, you have to create this hysterical hypothetical where somehow the Bears won, and he was great, when, here in the real world, he sucked and the Bears lost.
I’m sure we’ll do this again next football season, but for now, I’m done. Luckily, I have a Super Bowl to enjoy and you get … well you get Cutler and the offseason. Enjoy.
