The (offensive to Indians) Redskins have been defeated by the (offensive to those employed in the meat industry) Packers. This has always meant that the incumbent president has been unseated. Hopefully that will be true this year as well…
Well, that’s it then. Good we got that out of the way. Now I know you tighty-righty types are disappointed, but suck it up, don’t be political girly-men. At least now you don’t have to bother going to the polls, 'cause its over. You know, it would be real thoughtful of you to call all your friends and relatives and advise them, so they can take it easy too. They would really thank you for that.
Of course, I’m still going to the polls, but thats only cause there will be lots of liberals there, so its a good place to score drugs and porno, maybe a bootleg of Grand Theft Auto…
Somebody should collect all these “indicators” together on a single web page, so we can see how many that haven’t been wrong in xx years turn out to be wrong (I’ll bet half of them).
I hope the Redskins one happens to be one of the 50 percent that turn out to be right one more time…
There’s the Halloween Mask one, I think. Any others?
I have a coworker who said that she saw the “ballot” by the weekly reader. They had Kerry giving a stump speech, and a picture of Bush at home with a kitty in his lap.
“Hey kids, who should be president? Mean-looking politican man or the nice man with the kitty”?
It was a fucking joke.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A63611-2004Oct26.htmlThe Posthad an article listing a few popular indicators. (registration may be required)
I didn’t know Kerry was taller. Now I’m not nearly as worried.

It felt weird today to root for the Packers to win, seeing as I am from Chicago. I know that these silly indicators really don’t mean anything, but I really whooped it up when Ahman Green scored to clinch the game with under 2 minutes to go.
Umm - the Weekly Reader poll hasn’t been wrong since 1956 - that’s 12 for 12. This year? George W. Bush. Internals? Only 10th graders had it for Kerry.
Umm… the Weekly reader still skewed their own results by putting Bush with a kitty cat and Kerry without a kitty cat.
Well I venture that our little scholars with their heads buried in their Weekly Readers are better informed than those Packer fans with their heads buried in cheese hats.
Evidently not, since they voted for Bush.
If the WR has been accurate in past tests, it is because kids vote with their parents and it serves as a kind of random sample. My coworker told me her daughter came home (wearing the Kerry sticker) and said she voted for Bush “because he had a kitty.” My coworker looked at the WR and saw the pictures. She said the one of Kerry was awful, the one of Bush cozy. She is voting Kerry, but her daughter voted for the nicer looking man in the picture.
Hence my argument that the results cannot be trusted even as an indicator of how the parents of the kids feel.
I certainly won’t buy that kids “know more” because they read Weekly Reader. To find news more shallow and written for less literate audience, you’d have to buy USA Today.
Well, they DO call him “Lurch”…
Funny that they specify that it must be a home game. Because the Redskins lost to the Colts on November 3rd, 1996. Bill Clinton was reelected two days later.
IOW, this is merely a coincidence, and one that uses quite tortured data.
Smart money is still on Bush.
Kerry will win, and confusion to the rug rats!
Smart money that wants to be lost, perhaps.
If it makes you feel better — Right about the younger kids voting like mom and dad — but that’s what has me concerned with this latest poll. The one at Nickelodeon which shows a strong majority Kerry vote. I would think there is a pretty low upper age limit on kids going to the Nickelodeon site — (no more than 9?) Frankly, I’m worried.
Anyway, since Nickelodeon seems to be in the Kerry camp - I’ll raise the on-going questions surrounding Sponge Bob here. You’ve heard the rumors. And square pants — OR SHOULD I SAY SWEET PANTS – come on! Hey - if Cheney’s daughter is fair game so is “Mr. Bob.” Hey - you want dirty politics — bring it!! Anyway, I’d venture that our friend, Square Pants, probably plays well to the younger, less informed crowd of 3 to 6 year olds.
AGAIN, who is better informed overall — those little scholars buried in their Weekly Readers or those zoned out Ed, Ed, and Eddie cartoon brats?
Those are the same kid, fer cryin’ out loud. Do you think kids EITHER go to school OR watch television?
