I’m not the best with computers, so please be patient with me…
Running Windows XP and Internet Explorer. I have Zone Alarm as my firewall.
When I click on certain pages, they will not display. The pages seem to be graphic heavy. I have reset all of my browser settings to default and that hasn’t helped.
I’m sure there is more information I need to give, but I can’t think of anything else at this time.
Are they simply small subsets of the pages displayed on your monitor? Or are the pages full-sized, but the pictures or images are distorted? Pages not displaying properly
(I am really trying to resist asking whether your name is Foley?)
For starters, can you supply an example of a page which will not load for you? And what exactly do you mean by “they will not display”? Do you mean you get a blank page, or do you get an error message or what?
Alright, by not displaying properly I mean that the page loads–but images on the page will not load. These missing images are normally in a large rectangle that includes a small box in the upper corner that has an “x” in it.
Well…I thought I had downloaded the adobe flash player–but haven’t really had a chance to test it out. I tried last night, and the pages are still not displaying. I tried once again–this time actually paying attention–to download the software, but it simply won’t download.
When I click on the download now button in the link provided by John Mace it takes me to a new page and then nothing happens at all. No messages, no download, nothing.
A similar question from me - when my work internet connection is being flakey, often I’ll get the page text to display, but without any images and without the page style applied. For instance, on the SDMB, none of the logos or buttons will appear, which I suppose is to be expected, but what is weird is that all the text is in the default Times New Roman font, with minimal formatting.
Any idea why a poor connection should let through the text of a web page but cause the formatting/style sheets to vanish?
Well, that was my link; John just happened to quote it.
In any case, it sounds like the player is installed properly, since the linked page performs a check of your browser and etermines which, if any, version of the player you have and installs the newest correct version if it’s not already installed. So, it’s not (just) a player issue. I’m not sure what else the problem could be, unless it’s a corrupted addon which is is causing the trouble. Does your IE (which version, BTW?) have a lot of toolbars and such installed? If so, remove them one by one until either the problem goes away, or all the toolbars are removed. Do the same with any other addons or plugins you might have installed.
Or you could try switching to Firefox–frankly, I find it to be a vast improvement over IE in almost every respect. YMMV.
I have removed the aol toolbar that I had installed not long ago, but that hasn’t helped.
I have no idea if this is related or not, but I just found out when I hit the old “Ctrl, Alt, Delete” to pull up the Task List Manager that I get this message: The task list manager has been disabled by your administrator".
I definitely didn’t do this, and I haven’t had a problem with this before today.
Perhaps there is something more sinister at work?
I am getting ready to run through my antivirus stuff, ad aware and spybot, and run my Hijack This as well.
