I’m still hoping you get a taker from here.
i hope someone takes these kitties - what a good deal! They’re already fixed and bonded to each other! BUMP.
I can’t take both - I’m so sorry about that, but my place is too small for 3 babies. This is probably like a Sophie’s choice moment - I wish I could, but it isn’t realistic for me.
Whichever kitty you decide will be the one I love. Promise.
jali, do you have a neighbor or friend who might be willing to take the other one? That way they can be sent down to you together, go to their new homes, and maybe visit each other from time to time!
Bumpy, bumpy ^…^ ^…^
Have they ever been around dogs?
Since Marlitharn won’t be back until tomorrow, I hope she won’t mind me answering on her behalf.
Yes. They have a dog now, who’s going to her mother’s house (along with the guinea pig) when they move, but her mother can’t take the kitties, too. (From here.)
I have six cats. I can’t take on more.
But I would donate generously to a fund to help a stretched-thin Doper afford to take both. For once in my adult life I have more money than space.
I’ll start asking around.
Bump
Sorry I can’t help with the adoption, but I do have a word of advice about litter boxes. I find that most cats are pretty fastidious and owners need to keep the boxes clean. If you have big clumps and lumps, it needs to be filtered out or they simply won’t use the box at all. One technique our family used was not to fill a new box to the brim with litter, but just put a few scoops in at first. Then as it is used, add a few more and filter out the solids. It makes the freshness last – hey, that sounds like a good line for an ad tag, eh?
Thanks, jali. I think Oreo might be the best fit for your kitty; like I said, she’s pretty easy-going (“gormless as a Valley Girl”, I think was how I described her), but there might be a bit of hostility before she settles down and makes up. And maybe, just maybe, with only Luna left, I might be able to call my mother up and cry hard enough to convince her to take the cat in along with the dog; I’d definitely visit more if my kitty was there. (I can hope, can’t I?)
Do we have any Dopers between Missouri and Georgia able and willing to do a relay sometime between Saturday and Wednesday? I’m free every morning to meet someone somewhere (I don’t go to work 'til 4) and Tuesday and Wednesday I’m free all day.
In all seriousness, can she be bribed? I’d be happy to put up some nice bribe money.
If we can’t find drivers to caravan, perhaps we could fund her move using one of these services to get Oreo to jali:
Wow, I had no idea such places even existed. Although now I think about it, they make perfect sense. The second place says it would cost between $800-$1000 to move one animal; I couldn’t get a quote from the first place, it kept timing out, but I imagine it would be a similar price.
While the generosity and support of the Dope has totally blown my mind these last several days (seriously, you guys have made me cry in a good way more than once), I don’t think we could raise that much in a couple of days. I don’t have a credit card or a bank account of any kind at the moment, either, so I couldn’t make any kind of reservations.
For about a quarter of that amount, maybe we could bribe a volunteer to transport from point A to point B? I might be able to find a cat carrier at the secondhand store.
Do airlines do something similar? It seems maybe they used to.
Has anyone run the addresses to see what distances we’re talking about from Marlitharn to jali and perhaps what natural stopping points or halfway points there are? Let’s not get too specific about anyone’s location, obviously.
If someone would provide them a loving home, I am willing to catch an Midwest to the general Rocky Mountain area transport. Or, I’ve got a few airline miles (Delta) to contribute, if that would help. I would need a day or two notice.
<shit. damn. hell. These cats need a home, but I have to consider the critters to whom I am already obligated. Dammit.:(>
If $$ is needed to ship kitties, I’m more than happy to kick in.
Let’s try this: If you can contribute monetarily to shipping the cats, send me a pm. Let’s see what we can scrounge up amongst us.
Can you stick a couple of cats under a Greyhound bus? We had to get my dad’s wallet to him once when he left it lo these many years ago, and that was the easiest and cheapest way.
