WTF, I’m listening to her announcement now. Did she just lead off by effectively saying “As a lame duck governor, I don’t have the strength of character to not just goof off and take it easy on the State’s dime for the next year and a half so I’m going to resign.”? Wouldn’t it be more reasonable to argue that as a lame duck governor, one wouldn’t be subject to self-serving decision-making?
Regardless, this is one of the most inept, incoherent press conferences I’ve ever heard. I think her political career is over. If she runs for President, her opponents are going to argue, rightly enough, that if she can’t finish what she started as a governor, why should anyone trust that she won’t get sick of being President after a few months?
Notice ‘hot’ is first. And of course she’s a woman. So I think there is a segment that thinks it’s a good idea to run a hot (for the horny guys) woman (for the female vote) conservative (to save AmurriKKKa!).
Maybe, but it will be an “after the fact” offer. They wouldn’t try to bribe her away from political office. That would be shooting themselves in the foot. No, I’m betting a nice, juicy scandal is in the works. Probably dealing with misuse of state money or the like.
recently, as in last day or two, some emails were released regarding todd palin and the succesion group (alaska independence? independent alaskan?) could there be something there?
or was she betting on the holiday weekend, all jackson all the time news to cover the resignation?
I don’t recall any of those statements making it over here. Besides, isn’t ‘not being a team player’ pretty much a death sentence in American business and politics? Then again, my original scenario was for McCain to resign after 3 years as President, leaving her with the Presidency and a run of her own with the advantage of being an incumbent.
If she is resigning to set herself up to run for president, it’s the stupidest thing she’s ever done. Nobody is going to be impressed by her abandoning ship. There has to be something else.
She could always change her mind, right? Up until she actually signs her resignation? “Due to the outpouring of love and support . . .”
Someone on Fox “News” just floated the idea that, “she realized that things were too partisan in Alaska, with the media and bloggers, and she knew she really wouldn’t be able to get anything done,” … or words to that effect.
Partisan bloggers chased her out, huh?
If this is the prevailing political wisdom, then I sincerely hope Obama doesn’t read the Internet.
Exactly. In shooting down the crazy conspiracy theory, Palin and her supporters proudly showed her to be a ditzy, irresponsible dimwit. It’s got to be one of the only times massive good came out of a conspiracy theory.
Anyway, I can’t wait to hear what the scandal is.
