Palins Divorce

an adulterer or adulteress.

putting on pissed face

  1. People with children getting divorced is no laughing matter. Just think of how all these sick and mean jokes are going to impact the poor chidren. And that poor poor special needs kid is going to be devasted by your meaness.

taking off pissed face

  1. Whore = prostitute = " a person who willingly uses his or her talent or ability in a base and unworthy way, usually for money." which is I think is a pretty damn good description of how Palin conducts herself all the time. (mind you, I am not so sure exactly what would be a good use of her talent)

  2. If indeed she is getting divorced (and if she were I would laugh my arse off) because of infidelity then she is a big slut (or in my parlance a slaggart)

I would take issue if someone said “no doubt, this has to be true” and later acted as if they hadn’t ever said that. How many did that? I’ll certainly allow that it’s a number greater than zero, but still a trivial number. As I said, if you disagree, it would be easy enough to point to examples.

As to the broader case that you try to shoehorn in there, “uncritical or even gleeful tone” isn’t exactly “signing on to that story” or “pushing the story”. People discuss news all the time. A new rumor is still news, and people are going to hash it out in order to figure out whether it’s true. The Palin story isn’t getting any special treatment in this case, unless you feel it’s somehow different than the birthers, the swift boating, Vince Foster, and a number of other fabricated shitstorms over the years. That sort of bias is an unfortunate bug in human psychology, just like the one causing you to perceive that it all began when Palin accepted the VP nomination last year.

Sweet Jesus. It actually started here?

Bad SDMB. Bad.

Won’t somebody THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!

I think you’ll find several posts made by me condemning the Obama/Muslim crap, the Obama/terrorist crap and the Obama/citizen crap as well. No, I’m not only bothered by this… but the difference is that when the Obama/Muslim crap was spewed here, I was one of many to denounce it as garbage.

True, but all of the people who signed onto it by discussing it uncritically or gleefully have just… vanished.

A divorce rumor is not in the same universe of craziness as the Obama secret Muslim/birther stuff.

Oh my word.

Results 1 - 10 of about 1,010,000 for gotcha ya.
And SDMB doesn’t even show up on the first ten pages.

I had no idea that had actually spread elsewhere.

That’s almost as good as my friend who single-handedly started the “delicious” fad.

Maybe Palin is a secret muslim.

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh!

You’re joking, right?

True.

But there’s a reason it isn’t. Starting at Ground Zero, so to speak, there’s nothing crazy about a man named Barrack Hussein Obama being a Muslim. All other things being equal, it’s substantially more likely than a man named Thomas Flannery O’Brien being a Muslim. what made it crazy was the fact that there we weren’t starting at Ground Zero; it was crazy because there was substantial credible evidence to the contrary.

With respect to the divorce rumor, there’s no credible evidence in its favor, and credible evidence against it. The correct position for a fair-minded person is to say, “At present, there’s little evidence indicating this is true.”

It’s mathematically possible that President Obama is a secret Muslim. It’s just highly, highly unlikely to be true. I agree that the Palin divorce story is more likely to be true, but that doesn’t move it to the category of toss-up merely by comparison. If that were the way things worked, I could say that we should still keep an open mind about Obama, since, after all, his being a secret Muslim is not in the same universe as, oh, Holocaust deniers. That the Holocaust happened is even more certain than Obama’s Christianity, but the mere comparison doesn’t mean that the secret-Muslim theory has somehow gained credibility.

There’s nothing crazy about a woman named Sarah Palin getting divorced, either. If you factor in the national divorce rate plus the fact that she’s just gone through a political campaign that would put any marriage through the wringer, it’s an entirely plausible premise. But since it has no evidence behind it, the story is getting no legs, and it’s essentially dead at this point (hasn’t hit the MSM as far as I can tell). Nobody in this thread is arguing that it’s true. You’re experiencing a very selective sense of persecution here.

Well, I will admit that when that rumor first started (this was back in the first week or two after Palin’s nomination), I read the whole thread with some interest, participated in the discussion (I think… I went back and searched and couldn’t find the actual thread, but I believe I posted something in it… I certainly made comments about the issue here and here). Anyhow, at no point was I convinced that the rumor was true, but there was certainly a while when I thought it was plausible. Maybe 15% likely?

So… there was a rumor. I read about the rumor. I found the rumor plausible. I discussed the rumor. Do you think I have something to apologize for? If so, what? And if not, who specifically are you angry at?

Angry? Heck, he’s delighted. Because this whole thread proves liberals are big meanies.

What’s a “delicious” fad?

Atkins? MMMMMMMMMMMMH Bacon!

You realize that’s finding any page with the word “gotcha” and the word “ya” appearing anywhere? You need to put your search in quotes (e.g., “gotcha ya”) if you’re looking only for the phrase.

It still appears 52,800 times, but that’s 1/20th of what you showed.

Also, if you do the search in Google Groups and sort by date, you’ll see examples going back to January 2000.

Are those actually “gotcha ya” as a phrase in itself, or examples along the lines of “gotcha, ya little punk”?
