Read the thread. It’s hilarious.
No, just a potty-mouth.
Not like the Kenyan birth certificates of Barak HUSSEIN Obama. Those were totally real.
I wondered if anyone was going to latch on to the point of your question.
What, that Bricker has a bad memory?
No, the other thing.
The one that no Dopers who involved themselves in the Sarah-is-Trig’s-grandma fiasco came back and said “Gee, that was credulous of me. Sorry to have gone off half-cocked like that. Won’t happen again.”
Or were you asking how many posters “signed on”? If that was what you were asking, I think you could have been more clear about it.
Well, it should be easy to establish who actually bought into it, declared it to be true, and then track them down and demand an apology. However, if it’s anything like this thread, I think it’s likely people merely discussed that there was a dubious rumor afloat and it’s Bricker’s selective memory that they believed it with all their heart and repeated the rumor as fact.
The divorce is just a rumor, unsubstantiated gossip. It is about nothing and who cares if she does get one? When pols get more successful they tend to upgrade spouses anyway. She is suppose to be getting 11 mill for a autobiography. It appears to be interested in leaving Alaska. So much will change. But who knows or cares?
Really? Shit. Move over Dan Brown, there’s a new standard for people who can’t write making it rich from writing a book!
Well, my only question is how it would affect her future in politics. I sure as hell don’t care what she does otherwise, but I am interested in, and welcome, anything that assures she has no future in politics.
((POOR EDITOR!)). Also.
Bricker, who supported the rumor, and then did not apologize? Those are the people you should be attacking, instead of all of us usual suspects in general.
I remember in the thread(s) quite a few people not caring that much about the rumor, but being highly incensed at Palin’s flying from Texas to Alaska (and then driving to the hospital) after her water had broken in a high risk pregnancy.
Perhaps you’re conflating those posters with those who supported the rumor. Neither were, after all, very supportive of Palin.
Jezebel was a good & loyal wife. What was Hosea’s wife’s name, Homer or something?
I remember Shayna’s point being basically that one – either the rumor was true, or Palin was reckless for flying so close to her due date. I don’t recall too many others adopting that position.
What does it mean to “sign on” to a rumor? If it means that a lot of us thought that it was plausible and to varying degrees likely, so what? I also thought Al Capone’s vault was likely to have cool stuff in it. If I buy a box of Cracker Jacks, should I apologize before finding out it’s another lame not-a-plastic-compass toy?
There is a difference between debating the plausibility of something and declaring its truth. You’re correct that people here are much more likely to give ugly Palin-based rumors the benefit of the doubt, but that is a far cry from actively promoting and professing their truth.
ETA:
Heh… a simple change in punctuation and it looks like a really unfair epitaph.
I think it’s worth noting that while Palin has denied the divorce, she has not denied the affairs.
Because that’s precisely how rumors hurt. When the subject was Obama’s secret Muslimity, people here were furious that it was being thought plausible and discussed, because they realized that by the very act of discussing it, the meme spread. And well they should have been furious.
But when the subject is Palin, the gloves are off.
Why? It’s kind of a bizarre thing to note. Are you saying that she hasn’t denied the affair because her personal ethics and morals prevent her from lying. If that’s the case, then are you also taking her denial of a divorce to heart? Or are you saying that all of a sudden she’s developed the ability to parse her sentences in a Clinton-like manner in order to avoid later criticisms? Wouldn’t she need to be able to parse a sentence in the first place?
Bizarre I tells ya!
Confused and seeing this post as unfair to Bricker or me, or both. Why would I post an unfair epitaph for Bricker when I’m perfectly capable of questioning his stances?
<montyburns>Yes Dio, we all know what you think.</montyburns>
That said, nothing about Sarah Palin is worth noting.
First, note the smiley at the end (and the Rule against altering anything in quote tags). Now, consider the original:
“Bricker, who supported the rumor, and then did not apologize?”
Change a bit of end punctuation, add a couple words at the beginning to make it even clearer, carve it on a tombstone (granite or pizza, your choice), and you get a rather unfair epitaph:
“Here lies Bricker, who supported the rumor, and then did not apologize.”
