This is priceless. I can imagine her privately seething at the media–and GOP establishment–focus on Christie. He tried to say no (relatively) quietly, but Sara’s limelight wouldn’t leave him. This really hit a raw nerve–she took a sly dig at a Republican that had nothing to do with her other than garnering a bit of attention that used to belong to her:
Not much of a surprise. Quitting as governor probably ended Palin’s career as a legitimate political candidate. No matter how you try to spin it, it’s not exactly a shining testament to her ability to handle adversity.
I suppose some Republican candidate could always lose their mind and pick her for VP again, but I think the GOP has moved on to very slightly more credible nutty as a fruitcake candidates (although to date, neither Perry nor Bachmann has quite captured the Palin magic).
More money in speaking tours and shitty movies, polls said she couldn’t win, she backed out. Of course. And now to quote the always obnoxious, but often very funny, Bill Maher:
You know, why does everybody ask me this question? Everywhere I go people say to me, “Is Palin going to get in?” What am I, the idiot whisperer? How do I know what this daffy broad is going to do from one minute to the next?
Haven’t seen her statement, but I did see a report saying she wouldn’t go for the Republican nomination. Which of course leaves open the possibility of an independent Tea Party candidate.
I can see this. She doesn’t even have to do any real work. She just basks in the adoration of her people and cashes checks.
I wonder what the campaign fundraising rules are for someone whose position is, “Well, go ahead and vote for me if you feel you must. And go ahead and sign petitions to get me on the ballot in your state if you feel you must. And send me a check so I can continue to be a rogue and a maverick, win or lose.”
She would lose spectacularly of course, but she would be a few more million bucks ahead and still at the center of a media circus for a while longer.
If anyones interested, I’ll give 2:1 odds that Palin won’t run any sort of third party campaign this election. She’s been trying to cash in ever since she left the Governorship, and the GOP establishment are the ones with the money. She won’t piss them off by running a spoiler candidacy.
Sara doesn’t run. But she might drift through a campaign run by others, for purely ego and financial gratification. And I think she’s already pissed off the GOP establishment, so she has nothing to lose there either.
Why would anyone run a campaign for her at this point? I know she has a group of die-hards - I don’t know how many are left, but there are some - but why would anybody outside of that circle give his money or time on behalf of a candidate who doesn’t give a crap?
I agree with your earlier post. Run? Not a chance. But tease, hint, or insinuate that she might? Very likely if she thinks she can attract media attention or otherwise boost her brand. If the nominee is a Perry, Bachman or Cain (or one of them is on the ticket) I think it will be less likely, but if it goes to say Romney and she sees a chance to suggest that the tea’ers were cut out, odds skyrocket.
Dunno. But the far right of the Republicans are not going to be satisfied with Romney, so it’s possible they will look for a “purer” candidate. I think all the other candidates are too beholden to the party to splinter off, except for Palin. She might be their only option.
Her mere existence doesn’t make her an option. I think she believes she oughta be president, but we can be pretty sure at this point that campaigning to get elected is too much bother. If they’re that upset, they’ll find somebody else.
The far right hates Obama far more than it loves America. They’d hold their noses and vote for Lucifer himself rather than Obama. Sure, Romney’s a Mormon heretic. But he’s not a Muslim!
