I am now planning my garden-and I want to tear out most of the grass in the back yard-I hate mowing grass and all the fertilizing, watering, etc. I would like to plant ornamental grasses-and I like the look of PAMPAS GRASS-is it easy to grow? Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.
pampas grass is a very invasive non native plant that chokes out other plants and is very hard to remove. its considered a real nuisance in these parts. your neighbors would probably be very unhappy with you. iโd strongly advise against it.
Itโs gotta be native to somewhere. That having been said, Unless you are living in South America, it is an invasive weed. You donโt want to encourage it. In some areas it is illegal to plant, so if you insist, you should do some research.
Yeah, I liked the look of pampas grass too. Bought a couple of plants several years ago, and slowly grew to despise the plant. After we had our first child, the razor-like edges of the grass blade dawned on me. By then both clumps had grown to about 5 feet wide each and it took me lots of work to dig them up.
Put both of 'em in the driveway and within an hour someone gleefully got themselves a bargain. Good riddance.
