The running of the bulls in Pamplona is a yearly tradition wich invariably sparks a kneejerk thread in the pit about how barbaric the whole thing is etc.
Following the pre-emptive tactics so in vogue lately I am opening this thread as a pre-emptive preventative to preventively pre-empt the knee jerk.
Of course, at least it is more fun than seeing what happened to a British woman just some years ago who wanted to “protect” the bulls and was gored to death.
So anyway, here is the yearly thread to slam the barbaric Spanish custom. Just leave all your clothes at the door. And no, having big boobs is no excuse; the bouncing is part of the fun. Just make sure you don’t hurt the bulls.
Yeah, yeah, **sailor, ** we all know this thread has nothing to do with your annoyance at the PETA types. You just wanted an excuse to start a thread in GD about naked women.
I don’t particularly care for the running of the bulls one way or another but if the ones running are naked women then I want to see it in slow motion and great detail before I feel qualified to give an opinion.
The ironic part is that most of the runners are foreigners, many of them young Americans who have read Hemingway and think they are doing something daring and romantic (I hate Hemingway). If foreigners stopped going the whole thing would probably die off. Now, with the naked running of the bulls I doubt it will get less attention and probably people will start to run naked just for the heck of it.
It seems they can’t get enough of it so in the last few years they have started a new tradition. The bulls are run seven consecutive days so now, on the eighth day they will run if front of the first bus to go down that street in the morning.
And then every year we have a thread here condemning the running of the bulls but nobody talks about the running of the bulls but rather about the bullfights which are something different alltogether.
I remember the English woman who was gored to death was mentioned in one of those threads but I cannot find it. Maybe someone can bribe the hamsters. When I try to search it instantly responds it did not find any thread when I know it did not even try to look. The hamsters hate me and I don’t know why.
Correct me if I’m wrong but … aren’t only men allowed to run with the bulls? I have talked about this with a friend who has been there, and she claims that there were women who tried to pass themselves off as men in order to get to participate.
Women run too, but they get subjected to all kinds of catcalls and taunts. (I ended up not running in part because I heard about the harassment from others who had run the day before.)
So you are telling us you are willing to risk being gored by a bull and lose limb or life for no good reason but not if it entails subjecting yourself to catcalls and taunts? I think you need to revise your priorities. As well as your information because I have never heard of women being harassed for it. As few women run (they seem to have better judgment) they may provoke some reaction which I am sure is not derogatory in any way. In any case, deciding the issue on what others may think seems pretty stupid to me. You’re out of your mind or out of touch with what goes on in the world if you think that a woman wouldn’t be subject to severe harassment under such circumstances. We’re talking about a large crowd of men who are pumped up to participate in a tradition that is seen as a display of mascunlinity in a country that prides itself on displays of masculinity. Jesus, I’ve been told I wasn’t allowed to go to a soccer game in Argentina because I was a women! Women are not welcome for the corrida, as I was told by many many people, and harassment is one way they discourage women from participating. Funny that there are no women in any of the photos you linked. My friend did run and reported that it was very unpleasant, though she hardly saw a bull. Even if it did not go against tradition, it is typical to harass women just for walking down the street (happens every day of my life even in the US). It is not your place to tell me how much harassment I should be willing to endure in account of my gender. Not derogatory? Are you insane? You haven’t experienced it yourself, but you must have some awareness of what women go through, right?
And by the way, the dangers are exaggerated - IIRC the year I was there the only deaths were drunken Australians who jumped off a tower for fun. The vast majority of those who run barely see the bulls. I weighed the pros and cons - and the fact that locals told me that I was unwelcome was a factor - and decided against it. The only reason to do it was so that I could tell people I had done it, and I already has plenty of good travel stories.
I would like some authoritative cites for that. I am not taking your word for it because it contradicts everything I know.
That is your take. My take is that we’re talking about a country which is far more tolerant than the USA when it comes to almost anything and that includes religion, sex, nudity, homosexuality, drugs, and anything else you care to mention, including women’s roles. Please provide cites to the contrary
Argentina is not Spain and I’ll let some Argentian deal with that but I guess you are lying.
You’re not only lying, you are making things up. Corrida is not the running of the bulls. Corrida means bullfight, which shows how much you know.
Which does not prove anything except that women are not attracted to certain things. I can show you plenty of activities in America where women do not participate and it is not because it is forbidden to them. There are activities which are male oriented and few women care about them just like men do not generally care for other activities which women do like.
Oh, give me a break. If you are being harassed in the US and everywhere else maybe there’s something wrong with you or your attitude.
Poor things.
Your post is proof that you can decide against running and still be an idiot.
