You ignorant fuck - corrida is that Spanish word for a run of any sort, and if you knew any basic Spanish this would be obvious to you (correr = to run). Apparently, they use the word “encierro” for that portion of the run, but there is nothing incorrect about my use of the word corrida. Somehow you have managed to go through your life unaware that women are reguarly subjected to verbal harassment, more so in Spain, and even more when they are in the middle of a macho hazing ritual where they are unwelcome. I can only conclude that you have had no contact with women in your life, which would not be surprising considering your personality deficiencies. Why the fuck would you accuse me of making up a story about trying to go to a football game in Argentina?

Try NYC. According to their reputation, Midwestern men would be the least likely to harass women in the street. I’m especially pissed off about this right now because of some recent incidents that crossed the line into assault. (I bet someone will come along and try to say that I must have done something to cause it. :rolleyes:) I’ve spent a lot of time in Latin American and Mediterranean countries, and it’s a whole other story in those places.
Anyone who knows Spanish knows corrida is a bullfight and encierro is the running. The origin of the words may be whatever they are but the meaning is what I said. I can find you dozens of English words which have meanings different from what their origin would suggest. And I hate to break it to you but English is my second language and Spanish is my first language.

As for your affirmation that women in Spain are harassed more than in the USA, maybe that is your perception but let me point out:
Nudity in Spain is pretty normal on TV (try that in the USA)
Nudity in Spanish beaches is quite normal and Europeans flock to Spanish beaches in the summer. I hardly think they feel harassed. Try that in New York.
In Spain, as you can see, even nude demonstrations are accepted and no one is arrested for being nude. Try that in America.
Spain is a preferred country for gays because of its openness. You can see gay men and women by the thousands kissing and making out in public. Try that in America. Ask any gays who have been to Spain if they felt unwelcome.
I could go on and on. Pot, Prostitution, religion, abortion, creationism, etc. Spain (like the rest of Europe) is way more tolerant than the USA. I am sorry if that goes against your preconcieved prejudice but I think European dopers and Americans who have lived in Europe will back me up.

I haven’t agreed with anything else chula has said so far in this thread, really; I’m not denying her anecdotal experiences with piggish men, but based on my own experiences in Spain and Latin America and the U.S., I’d certainly say they’re not the norm. And this coming from someone who was a hair’s breadth away from being date-raped in Spain by a real prick who decided that because American women were “easy,” I should have sex with him on a few hours’ acquaintance. But I still don’t put all Spanish men into the “pig” category. (It was kind of funny in the end, actually. When he realized he wasn’t getting laid that night, at least not by me, he told me “for as liberal as you say you are, you might as well be Ronald Reagan!”)
And I’m just as much of a feminist as anyone, if you consider feminism to be the belief that women are equal to men (different in some respects, but equal) and should be treated accordingly in all respects. (And well, if fewer women than men participate in Pamplona, well, that’s just an indicator of how stupid some men can be. I can’t imagine wanting to do anything like that, but maybe that’s just because I don’t drink enough.)
