I was going to put this thread in GD but it occurred to me that the practise may be so indefensible that there might not be any posters here to defend it. So, since I’m still curious, I thought I’d do a poll. Just select the option that best applies.
FYI - I think bullfighting is nothing more that a sickening glorification of flagrant animal torture dressed up as entertainment, and that it should be banned in every country in which it is practised.
P.S. - Please feel free to elaborate on your answers if you wish. I only ask that, in deference to the current forum, we refrain from debating each other’s choices. Thanks.
I attended a bull fight in Mexico City once. While there is, without a doubt, a lot of skill and pageantry, at it’s base it’s just torturing an animal. I vote for banning it.
I am in agreement that bull-fighting is something that should be retired as one of those barbarous leftovers of a more savage time of entertainment, but how do you feel about Cow-Fighting?
I really dislike bull fighting personally, but I’m not prepared to ban it. I’m kind of burned out on the idea that everything bad should necessarily be illegal as well. Some people are insensitive and cruel and there are some things they do that I just don’t have the motivation to lock them up for.
Bull fighting is awesome! I went to a couple of fights as a kid (I just remarked to myself that they were probably the first professional sporting events I attended.) They were exciting and fun- especially one bull who went through 4 dudes before being defeated. How is it any different than a rodeo? Or a horse race? They are all animal “torture” for entertainment. You know what else is too- making dogs live indoors (especially in an apartment) and fish in a tank!
So put me in the camp of: it will die soon enough of its own volition, there’s no need to legislate against it.
Doesn’t appear to be a shortage of bulls so I think nothing of it. Nature of itself is cruel, it is very un-natural for any living creature to live a life with nothing to fear.
I like bull fighting to a certain degree. I would like it much more if the matadors were forbidden to have helpers. One man and one sword against a thousand pounds of beefy fury and two horns.
I hate this issue. I think I’m immune to the disgust I ought to feel over it because it’s ingrained into culture. Take away the swords and spears and I won’t have a problem if those guys fight the bull bare handed. They can even have the cape.
I think it should be banned since there is no question that it is cruelty to animals. However, I don’t think it is NEARLY as bad as Bull RIDING. At least in Fighting, the bull is finally put out of it’s misery and eaten. Whereas RIDING I see as a bunch of redneck jock assholes seeing who can rape an animal the longest. Then they pack them up and transport them to the next rape event.
While I agree horse racing is also a bit tortuous, it is no way in the league of bull riding. True, the breaking process of taming a horse can’t be pleasant for it, but those are some of the most cared for animals on the planet. The horses WANT to run. Or at least learn to want to run. Bull’s have there nuts strapped to piss them off as much as possible ON PURPOSE EVERY EVENT.
That is how it seems to me from talking to rodeo guys, tho they seem to use a bit different language. If there is someone that knows for sure, please chime in and fight my ignorance.
But i agree about dogs in apartments. But fish in a tank? I guess depends on the fish and the tank.
I hate bull-fighting and wish it would be banned. But I also cannot believe sometimes that boxing is legal, either, so maybe I’m not the best perspective on this.
Bulls are stupid, matadors are stupid. I don’t care what happens to them. They shouldn’t kill the bulls just when they’re getting the hang of the sport, though. Isn’t sporting.
The bulls are handicap so they can’t see very good, Vaseline is rubbed into their eyes needles are put in their hoofs and legs and mistreated before the fight even start ! Disgusting !
