Panasonic AG DVX100A import version

I ordered a Panasonic AG DVX100A camera last week, but today I found out it’s back-ordered for at least three weeks. So I cancelled the order and went to another place. When I called, I was greeted with an East Coast accent who said that the advertised price is for the import model. No worries. I haven’t had any trouble with imported electronics. The guy said, ‘No battery. No charger.’ (I had previously told him we have those.) ‘No manual. The buttons are in Chinese.’ He was really trying to get me to buy the U.S. version for nearly twice as much. Man, I hate the hard-sell. Especially when it’s a ‘bait and switch’. So here’s the question:

Are the controls on the non-U.S. version of the Panasonic AG DVX100A really in Chinese? Or was he feeding me a line to get me to pay $3,400 for the same camera that they’d advertised for $1,900?

(Had I been thinking, I should have responded to his ‘buttons are in Chinese’ line with, ‘Cantonese, or Mandarin?’)

Thought this was an interesting comment so I looked up your location on maps.google.com, which now renders such coordinates ordinary. You must live on a boat.

I had a B&S experience with a big NYC photo house when buying by phone. It was an infuriating waste of time. They let me spend all this time talking to them about buying an advertised camera, then they switched me to another salesman to tell me that camera was a piece of junk and I should really buy this other one which was, by the way, much more expensive.

As for your specific case, this photoisn’t high res enough to tell for sure but I doubt the labels are in Chinese. This is a review from a Chinese site so I presume that the model being reviewed is one sold in China.

No, just really close to the beach. Actually, someone else looked up the coordinates a while ago, and the map was wrong. At that time I went out and double-checked on the GPS. Either the map is wrong or the GPS is.

Boy I’d sure like to call up that box house and specifically ask for the Chinese version camera to see what their response would be.

Ah, to hell with it. We must have another camera. I found a U.S. version from a camera shop back east (they’re all back east!) advertised at $200 more than the import version (after $500 mail-in rebate from Panasonic). Why so cheap? You should see their shipping charge!
